It is time to announce "Glue Lake" and start to implement chiplet stacking.

Re: Intel Just Cancelled... Bankruptcy

It looks like Operation: Super Glue is working! Intel is riding entirely on sheer momentum and OEM market. It is no thanks to their ubiquitous iGPUs on the overwhelming majority of desktop/desktop CPUs SKUs. AMD needs to be on par if they want to wrestle away mainstream marketshare. The picture does...

Re: BALDUR'S GATE III

BG1 and BG2 pretty much play like a normal 2nd D&D campaign with some extra bells and whistles. Party wipes are on the par until your characters get around 8th and 9th level. Respect the icosahedron. Yes, but it's the characters and the story that really make it special. "Go for the eyes, ...

Just got a new 8" Newtonian/Dobsonian mount telescope. The moon looks absolutely amazing. I just need to get a proper lunar filter/eyepiece. ;)

Despite the near-tranquil facade, people were up there on the surface not that too long ago.

Re: Radeon VII Goes to an ELO Concert!

It was done entirely to sell off Instinct Mi50 stock that ISV/OEMs didn't want for whatever reason. It was almost assuredly not that given it's a different PCB, cooler, binning, etc as well as the fact that Mi50 GPUs sell quite well at at excellent profit margins. They had excessive yields that ISV...

Re: Radeon VII Goes to an ELO Concert!

I've got to wonder if it was done in part to get some hands-on experience at 7nm before prime-time. It was done entirely to sell off Instinct Mi50 stock that ISV/OEMs didn't want for whatever reason. The current pricing paradigm is only reason AMD was willing to pull this off. Radeon VIIs at their ...

Re: Gerbitl GPU spend $$$

Got my Vega 64 when it was brand new to replace an aging GTX 660Ti unit. I do intend on keeping it for at least three years and it looks like there's a good chance of that happening since I'm not trying to jump into the whole 100FPS+/4K bandwagon.

Re: SUPER-duper

2060 Super isn't replacing the 2070 though. Since GeForce RTX2060 SUPER matches the performance of the GeForce RTX2070 and it (officially) costs less, it should definitely replace it in the marketplace, unless prices on RTX2070 models are slashed significantly in the future. 2070 will probably get ...

Re: SUPER-duper

2060 Super isn't replacing the 2070 though. The 2070 is a fully enabled TU106 chip and has overclocking headroom which does allow it distance itself from the 2060 Super. I suspect 2070 will undergo considerable factory overclocking from vendors to help sell itself. 2060 Super is just a TU106 with on...

I’m so looking forward to TR reviewing any 3000 series CPU. You guys actually do benchmarks for audio workstation others avoid as it requires a skill set they find time consuming. Re: Mitsubishi's Verbatim, Known for Optical Media, Sold to CMC

CD-R and DVD -/+ R media has been on the decline as far as sales are concerned. It doesn't surprise me that industry consolidation is happening. CMC is meh-tier and typically makes the bulk of the generic/rebranded recordable optical media out there.

I have seen and handled an old glove compartment-size HDD before. It was originally used in a mainframe back in the 1970s. Not sure about its capacity, but it was probably somewhere in the 10-50MB range.

Re: SUPER-duper

TU102 will not see the "Super" moniker because the intact TU102 customer-tier SKUs is already being sold as Titan RTX. 2080Ti is the cut-down version and factory-overclocked SKUs make a "2080Ti Super" a pointless gesture. Besides, TU102 have been moving steadily for their tier. T...

Not even remotely competing in the same market(s). PCIe is first and foremost an internal interface. Thunderbolt is just an external adaption of it. It is more like VESA is trying keep up with HDMI.

It was inevitable with HDMI 2.1 just coming onto the scene. We'll have to wait until next major GPU refresh for Displayport 2.0 to come around (Ampere/Post-Navi).

Nvidia is trying move excessive TU104 and TU106 stock. 2080 hasn't exactly been moving around due to its awkward position on the price/performance curve. Its current price point is the only reason AMD is even able risk to selling Radeon VII. The SUPER SKUs are be used as a upselling tactic while Nvi...

Re: AMD Navi / RDNA Topic

I wouldn't expect a RVII replacement for a while - it competes well enough with the 2080 in gaming and slaughters it in anything compute. It was a "free" development since it's basically a neutered Instinct card. "Big" Navi, if it is a thing, is probably not happening this year....

Do we suspect a Navi based card which will replace the Radeon VII as the crown jewel of the line up or will the Radeon VII with its shrink down to 7nm be their top card until the series after the 5700XT? Thoughts? Very unlikely. Navi was designed for the semi-custom and iGPU market first and foremo...

Turbo-clocking and MCE makes arm-chair overclocking pointless. MCE? Sheesh, in my system if I leave the BIOS on the default settings (which in ASUS's infinite wisdom has MCE on) the system won't even boot to Windows. Sounds like a power delivery issue. Coffee Lake chips are power hogs when fully lo...

Why? Turbo-clocking and MCE makes arm-chair overclocking pointless. The die-hard crowd always want to personally fine-tune their settings. It seems like the "service plan" side-pitch is just a cash-grab attempt for people who don't know any better. There is a wealth of freely available end...

Yeah, it is much more accurate to call it GPU/CPU output sync or such but that would have too much branding overlap with Freesync. The *sync branding is a bit crowded too with loads of other unrelated stuff. I can see this being pick-up in the eSports arena and Nvidia copying it in with their next g...
