TR is on the decline, PCPer too, H is dead (if this is real) - the options for legit tech news and reviews are dwindling. AT is hit or miss, same with Tom's. Pretty much just leaves Gamer's Nexus, IMHO.

The bandwidth bottleneck on Threadripper would be due to 4 dies sharing 4 channels of RAM, where 2 sockets of Xeon golds should be 6 channels per socket.

Re: Cinebench R20 is out. Officially banned from AMD demos

Dual Xeon Gold 6154 MT - 14,295 ST - 367 MP - 38.92x Now that's what I'm talking about! Anyone with a 3 or 4 die Threadripper want to contribute? Surely someone out there must have one. 2990WX (@4GHz) - 13469 (not my result, but there are plenty on the nets to check out) Thanks for posting that. Sc...

Anyone with a multi-socket system or a higher core count Threadripper care to run this benchmark? Would love to see the scaling across multiple dies/sockets/NUMA domains.

Re: Cinebench R20 is out. Officially banned from AMD demos

Ooh, new CPU bench - me like!

My first run is 8039
That's on a 7960x @ 4GHz with no AVX offset

The built-in score database shows a stock 1950x scoring 6670, so that sounds about right for a small clock advantage and some AVX usage.

"Memory" is a catch-all term. I've elaborated this point in my previous post. I understand why you'd say that, but I respectfully choose to disagree. I think it's just a bit more contextual. In chip fabrication it might be used as a pretty broad term referring to any chip or part of a chi...

Re: i9-9990XE: Purportedly, be Auction-Only

I agree that this is a very niche product. It would actually be perfect in my media server but since it's only available to OEMs I'll just keep on trucking with a 7900x. Maybe I'll swap it later this year with a Zen 2-based Threadripper or Sunny Cove-based HEDT i9.

At 1440p, you'll be good for the foreseeable future with a 1070Ti, 2060, or 2070. Even a regular 1070 would work if you don't mind turning things down a notch on AAA games. See what deals you can find, and make a judgment call. Just don't expect ray-tracing from those RTX cards. According to the [H...

Vega 64 for $400 is a much better value than a 2070. So if the rest seem a bit steep for you, maybe consider that? Can someone else weigh in on that? I may be missing something since no one else seemed to mention it. A free punch in the face is great value too. Doesn't mean you should choose that p...

I was really kicking myself until I saw how close a 7700K and 8700K perform when both use fast RAM. I don't really feel constrained by my 7700K for games. It'd be nice to have a few extra cores for photo processing, but overnight import and processing jobs would make the return-on-upgrade pretty ni...
