Anything's possible, but the lower TBW suggests there's more to it.
Maybe flash quality has improved between the 960GB and the 1TB? Or maybe they've just become more certain of its reliability.

Gee, also Crucial is doing these shenanigans with the BX500.
960GB and 1TB. Both, supposedly, SM2259XT and same Micron flash. Only apparent difference: 240TBW and 360TBW.

I think the 960GB is being phased out. The 1TB has been available for a few weeks now.

I think all should be? Just make sure all ports as set to AHCI mode.

Don't like these half-depth bays.

The new owners seem unlikely to do changes.

Side pane/forum linkage was discussed near the beginning of this thread, or perhaps the bugs thread. Since then people have given up hope.

Yes, it is.

But it's both ridiculous that it wasn't there since 10-15 years ago, and that it requires Win10 and specific hardware.

Best breakthrough AMD graphics technology in 2019

Good thing we have powerful new hardware and DirectX 12 to enable such cutting-edge features as integer scaling . Integer Scaling is compatible with Windows 10. Hardware compatibility includes GCN and newer consumer dGPUs, Ryzen 2000 and newer APUs, including hybrid and detachable graphics configura...

There's some overlap between IRC and forums but they're still different mediums. See Slack.
Better for casual / ephemeral / dynamic conversations, bad for organization, findability, R/W at leisure.

Re: Whole-disk R/W benchmarking software?

Thanks. These are most of the staples I mentioned, but also a few I haven't heard of. Parkdale is new to me and has some merit. It can graph R/W but it's clunky and I found it inconsistent. Ultimately I managed to get HD Tune to work. I think the key was to first delete the partition/filesystem. It ...

Re: Amazon's new Contact Us is a fail

It's not really that new. They made that change a while ago. Maybe a staggered release, or A/B testing? But a few days afterwards it was back to the good old system. Hopefully it stays, or perhaps they're incorporating changes to the new system after getting some feedback. The inability to further ...

Whole-disk R/W benchmarking software?

Any suggestions for something to test and graph whole-disk R/W, both linear and random?

I think none of the commonly used disk benchmarking software fit the bill.
HD Tune does at least sequential testing, but the write test refuses to run. Maybe it dislikes USB flash drives.

Re: Amazon's new Contact Us is a fail

My experience with these misunderstanding is that sometimes the reps turn defensive. Even when not, chats tend to take longer than writing an email. In cases where more than one email is needed, at least your timing is flexible.

Re: Amazon's new Contact Us is a fail

I've not had a ton of purchases so it's not like I'm statistically bound to hit bad cases, yet I've run in the past into a major major issue with them, and their consequent handling was a total disappointment. I'm much more guarded since then but still use them, just factoring in a revised risk asse...

Also seems email replies from CS now can't be further replied to, at least sometimes. An auto-message saying the address does not accept incoming messages.

Hopefully just teething problems.

Amazon's new Contact Us is a fail

No longer a(n obvious) way to send a message - only chat or phone, no chat transcript auto-email - must ask for it explicitly, and the format is worse, mobile-inspired design - each participant aligned to an opposite side of a 16:9 screen, messy log copying, low density. What's not to like? Also, ma...

Re: A surprising variety of SSD speeds

I can't think of a consumer use case where I'd actually need to do that. It's not just about speed but also data survivability in cases of imminent failure. Tape might be slow but is unlikely to vaporize all data in one fell swoop. RAID is not always an option. I hope future HDDs, or an entirely ne...

Realistically, 4 hours would be cool, 8 okay, but I'll settle for 12-14 if we're talking 2020-2021. :)

Re: A surprising variety of SSD speeds

I just found the random numbers funny, that's all. You still might want more than one or two quick drives, so M2 isn't a full replacement because of the floor space. I also wonder if in some cases there might be benefit to having hot devices away from the motherboard or PCIe cards. Anyway, 12Gbps ma...

The Maker Forums I really dislike Discourse. The functional and visual layout, and the high reliance on JavaScript. the forum software looks and functions like it's from 2003 2003 is good. :) In here it's almost 2003 + notifications. Re: Personal to do/task management software?

Handwriting, yeah, not for me. Even assuming a digital form it's too much manual work.

Outlook both doesn't have the advanced features I'm after (I assume?), and it's big, ugly, and with a different focus.

But the one I mentioned earlier seems agreeable, despite the flaws.
