Re: Something's different...

So, a farewell to Adam? So should we start expecting to see a new design for the forums too? Or can we expect it to live on? That already happened not too long ago, and phpBB should be sound. Hopefully. You picked a good time to change (now that news is actually happening again). Nah, even Intel rea...

Re: Something's different...

At least now Zak can be sure his next big article won't land just before a big haphazard makeover. Probably. :) Hang in there!

And I noticed Usacomp2k3's Starlink article is attributed to "Administrator".

Thanks drfish. How's the design (or shift to WP) expected to help with growth?

Re: Something's different...

Allowing people to see the conversation develop at a glance and see where they have something to say is vital. Integrating the comments into the forum could facilitate alerts. asking people for their website and then linking their name to that website is a recipe for trouble ... and be credited by ...

Re: Something's different...

Maybe it's an opportunity to marry the article comments with the forum. A thread per article, mirroring from/to the article-view comments. Somehow implement extra fields in phpBB for votes and to link to parent comment. BTW: There's still some URL strangeness in the forum. The pages' HTML canonical ...

Re: Something's different... (new)

I should have realized that money was getting tight, as the signs were there in reviews over the last couple years. There's a thread on topic, but it's half-hidden due to the title and the beginning of the thread. The pertinent stuff starts here: https://techreport.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=1&...

Re: Something's different...

That's pretty silly for a change that is mostly superficial. While I wouldn't go to the extreme as Pagey, I can sympathize with the general feel (in general, not necessarily TR). It may depends on the person, but it's not just superficial. Even if the core essence is still there, something can beco...

Re: Something's different...

TR looked old, but I considered that a good thing. I'd tweak a few elements in the classic design, but otherwise, yeah, it was "old" in all the good senses. I will say that moving away from a custom CMS is almost certainly a good idea. That's a lot of overhead that doesn't really need to ...

Regardless of the redesign, thanks for the hard work. The usual load, and the extra because of the transition.

Did you check what's the reported power use of each device? Maybe that's just more than the hub can provide.

Re: Something's different...

Guessing: The custom CMS isn't easy to get running on AWS.

The homepage redirect loop is back. Maybe has to do with subdomains? Also the forums redirect-loop when using www, but work fine without it at https://techreport.com/forums

Re: Something's different...

Same also without cache, on two browsers. (And... a few minutes later it works also locally.) I'll reserve judgment on the redesign until I've had a chance to use it a bit, but I don't see what's to like. All-white, low-density, blog-style are core elements in what I dislike in current design trends...

The homepage is loop-redirecting to itself, but checking remotely it does work.
Dislike the new design. :(

And the forums redirect and work thru an Amazon WS address.

Ahh, here's someone selling one on eBay I'm disappointed it doesn't come with an integrated diesel generator. in a soft foam shell adorned with bright colors and cartoon characters. This product needs to happen. Maybe you can replace the drive inside: https://c2.juzdeal.com/2/800/li/435/446/4874464...

Welcome.

Use Voidtools' Everything to index all files, then sort by modification date to find recent files, or by file size.

I also like SpaceSniffer for a bird's eye overview.

Re: pcper.com down? [mostly solved]

Strange. Looks like a 302 problem? I get to the login page just fine, and there's no 302, only 200.
Try on your phone to connect thru the cell network rather than WiFi.

And not that it looks like the problem, but for good measure try also other DNS servers, like 1.1.1.1 or 8.8.8.8 or 9.9.9.9.
