Re: Moving to the Austin, TX area - help needed

I'm driving down tomorrow and I start my job on Monday. Hopefully the house here in OK sells soon, because driving back and forth on the weekends is going to suck.

Re: .NET 4 updates fail to install (KB2600217, KB2656368)

Did you uninstall just .NET 4, or .NET 3 and/or .NET 3.5? Also, do you have a full install of 4, or just the client profile?

Re: .NET 4 updates fail to install (KB2600217, KB2656368)

Well, I've been using that as a batch file for years, which is why it still calls for initpki.dll. I would suggest that you try running the update package found in the "Windows 7, Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008" section in the link that I posted. Also, as a last resort, you can try t...

Re: .NET 4 updates fail to install (KB2600217, KB2656368)

I'm not sure if it's been mentioned already, but try running the below via command prompt or run them in a batch file. This fixes my .NET problems 9 times out of 10: regsvr32 softpub.dll /s regsvr32 wintrust.dll /s regsvr32 initpki.dll /s regsvr32 mssip32.dll /s regsvr32 scrrun.dll /s Even though it...

Re: Registry Cleaner, etc...

FYI, I'm a Windows system administrator for the DOD. Registry cleaners are pointless, and 9 times out of 10 do more damage than good. Just uninstall software that you don't use, and you should be good to go. If your computer is slowing down, however noticeable, I can guarantee you that your registry...

Re: Moving to the Austin, TX area - help needed

I'm starting the job on May 21, which means I'll be heading down to Austin on the 18th. I'm gonna have to stay in an extended stay hotel until June 2nd, unless somebody has a room/couch they can offer me. On June 2nd I'll be moving into one half of a duplex owned by a friend of a friend, so at least...

Re: Need a PSU for an old rig

Disregard....the computer booted. For whatever reason, it wouldn't work when I hooked up the front panel connectors manually. This is despite me unplugging, double and triple checking to make sure that they were connected properly. When I use the connector block, everything works great. Odd. Ubuntu ...

Need a PSU for an old rig

I'm trying to hobble together some old parts so that I can play around with Ubuntu, but I think my old PSU has finally bit the bullet. Most of the parts are fairly old (Core 2 Duo E6600, 4GB DDR2, Audigy 2 ZS, couple of old 160GB SATA drives), with a fairly recent video card (GTS 450). With that bei...

Re: What are you drinking RIGHT NOW?

Why can't a lot of beer be distributed in Michigan? Long story. Watch "Beer Wars". the big 3 (bud/miller/coors) prevent it. even some smaller places can't cuz of costs or can't produce enough (ie: new glarus) dogfish head gets a lot of this. tons of states complain they cant get DFH beer ...

Best video card upgrade for a Dell Studio XPS 435MT

A buddy of mine is wanting to upgrade his video card for his 3 year old Dell. Since he's in another state, it's hard for me to provide a good upgrade option since I have no idea what the power supply can handle, case dimensions, etc. I do know that he's currently using a Radeon HD 4350, but other th...
