Which, for those of us that deal with Security, unauthorized disclosure, etc. causes a serious problem. We need systems that care because users don't. Unix is no pancea in that case!

Re: LAN network question (restricted access)

There are several ways that it could be done, but first a couple of basic questions: 1. Does your laptop work other places while plugged-in (most laptops use Wireless these days, not a plugged-in/Ethernet connection)? 2. Does it show you have a link (when you plug it in, there should be lights on yo...

Re: firstgamingpcfor TeenageSon...

Two questions: 1. What is your budget? 2. What resolution will you be gaming at? These two drive the rest of the equation..... The CCL Elite Hawk IV seems to be a budget build....but it uses some parts that TR doesn't really recommend at the present. The system guide is a great place to get good rec...

Re: What is level of difficulty on this build?

Well, the 1st question is, are you planning on overclocking the CPU? If not, you could dump the cooler (and even the 4770k and just go for a 4770). Then your installation becomes easier as you don't have to try to fit a large cooler on your CPU. I would say without that you are looking at 1-2 hours ...

Re: Server Build, Avoton?

As to your questions: 1. No, the 4 core Avoton (I'm assuming a C2550) is not overkill. The recommended spec for Sage Accounting is a 2.4Ghz processor, and that Avoton fits. No mention of needing (or even using) multicore so no need to go for the 8 core variant. If you wanted to try to future proof a...

Motherboard: ASUS H87M-E: $86 PARTY FOUL ... H87 cannot OC a K-series CPU. Furthermore, why such a HUGE case ($150 nonetheless) and a $20 (after MIR) PSU to power a $2000 tower.....not a good choice (not to mention you should probably have a 550W PSU for that config . Bottom line, a $1500 tower is ...

Re: Question about individual core performance

Your choice of CPU (Intel) is really not limited here. Since you don't need any fancy new instruction sets, lots of cores, or even hyperthreading there are lots to choose from. Since you are going from a laptop to a brand new desktop CPU, your performance is going to be vastly better. You have not l...

The problem with sending funds is that the two institutions have to negotiate and actually send the funds. It is running gigabyte switches. It is not running Exchange. I never thought of having two separate raids. I’m assuming you would need two raid controller cards then? True but a lot of companies that say they're hiring really aren't, at least not outside the old-boy network. I ran into this when I was unemployed after graduating in 2008. I don't run into this too much, but where I am I do run into situations where they are hiring for a contract they have not won...

There are several issues currently with these concepts: 1. Apps need to be rewritten to take advantage of this concept. Some apps already have (hello, Office 365) but many have not. If you work in an organization with in-house apps (I do) it is non-trivial to do (and will take years, and the organiz...
