Ohhh geeez, not looking forward to that. So I'll avoid installing Ai3 until things are resolved. I'm sure it has something to do with how information about the hardware is passed on to Ai3 and subsequently to their servers to update requests? AI3 should be patched soon according to an extreme overc...

I get around 14L/100Km in my 2014 Fiat 500 Turbo because I rarely get a chance to open up the throttle on my commute unfortunately. Gas is around 1.14 Canadian per Liter here (for premium at least).

Well I see if I can talk him into getting a SSD then. A 120/128 SSD should be fine for Linux right? he already has 8GB of memory and a 1TB HDD. As long as he doesn't have much data. Something in the ~250 range is probably a safer bet. Or keeping /home on the HDD and putting everything else on the S...

Good point, but I though a quad core would be a step up from his dual core Haswell Pentium. Sure, it would. But is he really CPU limited now? Does he run anything that would really take advantage of more than 2 cores? If even a Brisbane dual-core K8 can still power a semi-reasonable "basic PC&...

*sighs*

I've already been gradually getting more and more annoyed with Mozilla as of late. Integrating a 3rd party service (Pocket) pissed me off quite a bit and don't like the new GUI either, but this is over the line. Time to switch back to Midori I guess.

If the node was an issue, Ivy Bridge would have had the same issue. Ivy Bridge, however, was fairly voltage tolerant (once delided). It is my understanding that Haswell and Broadwell were fragile CPU architectures. My favorite theory is that the FIVR is degrading before the rest of the CPU and gradu...

Am I the only person who laughed at the minimum requirements having a R9 290 and the recommended requirements having a RX 470?

Regardless, the game seems interesting. I've never played an ID Tech game, but I've played quite a bit of UT 2016. If the gameplay is any similar, I might pick it up.

Motherboard: Asus Maximus VIII Impact (Z170) One of these things does not belong. Can you spot it? I get that going with a Z series board was necessary to run faster RAM speeds, but IIRC you can non-K OC on H110 boards (I know AsRock had some H170 boards with non-K OC for sure) that probably cost 1...

Skylake Non-K Overclocking Build

Awhile back, I posted somewhere in the Hot Deal subforum that Newegg had an open-box Asus Maximus IX Apex on sale for extremely cheap. I, unfortunately, was slow and Newegg ran out of stock, so I bought the next best thing; an Asus Maximus VIII Impact on sale. Since open-box items lack a manufacter'...

Re: Kaby Lake Raja Edition [Kaby Lake-G] photographed

Yeah, instead of being the kind of 6+2, or 8+2 power phase setup we're used to seeing, I guess this board would be something like 6+6+2? Just speculating, but there does seem to be a lot of components around that socket especially considering that this isn't a high end desktop board we're looking a...

What memory speed and timings were used for each CPU?

IME the 32 million size can be extremely sensitive to memory frequency and latency. I'm not sure how much the 1 million size changes this.

Lowering the SSD capacity to 120 GB and using that money to upgrade the ram to something that will achieve 3200+ MHz on Ryzen might boost performance a tad.

Other than that, it looks good.

At LN2 temperatures, thermal paste cracking is a serious problem. I would imagine that liquid metal would crack quite often.

Regardless, liquid metal behaves as an insulator at low temperatures. I don't know why, but I know it does.

You only put enough LN2 into the pot to keep it around that temperature. LN2 pots tend to have fairly large copper bases that can make it a bit easier to control the temperature.

The i7 8700K is more suited for your particular use case than the 1700x. An i5 8600K, however, should offer the almost exactly the same experience as the 8700k in your workloads and costs significantly less.

Ryzen benefits greatly from increased memory frequency. Upping the ram to a 3200 MHz kit like this should provide a decent performance boost.
