In this day of constant virus scanning and attacks, I need a dual core setup just so I can play my games while the virus scanner is running in the background. I got an FX-60 instead of the FX-57 for that very reason. I got PO'ed at all the times I was in the middle of a game and a scanner kicked off...

Most games I have tried work in compatiblity mode. The only one I found that did not work so far was due to incompatibility with NTFS. It required a FAT32 filesystem to run.

Best: Homeworld.

I liked Starcraft a lot but I spent more time on Homeworld and really played it as a multplayer game. Starcraft I mostly played solo.

AOEIII sucks.

DOW Rocks.

Rise of Nations: I like.
Mech Commander I&II: Loads of fun.

The machine has 4GB of RAM, only 2.5 GB is visible since it is just WinXP Pro. If I switch to 64bit I will be able to see the 4GB. However I just got the machine yesterday so I am just trying stuff out now. I will probably have an alternate 64 bit Linux boot instead.

You do not need SLI to run that at 1920x1200. I have a 23" monitor and until yesterday was playing on a GF6800Ultra. A single GF7800 should do the trick for you. Or you could wait a month or two for the new cards to come out. Reason I upgraded my comp and cards is to go to 2560x1600 resolution.
