Re: Time to finally take the Ryzen plunge?

There are no CPU related settings to tweak in any game it's impossible to tune CPU load in the game settings. Is this really the case? Obviously there's no section in game menus for "CPU Settings" but as I understand it some of the graphics options have a big impact on the CPU. It's not l...

Re: Time to finally take the Ryzen plunge?

If you want to agonize over numbers without any testing, you can look up the X470 VRM list to see if you're really buying a proper VRM for your Ryzen. If you want 144 Hz gaming, I would say that is still intel's territory. In real life most people are not going to pair a $300 CPU with a $1200 GPU a...

Re: CPU vs GPU Bottlenecks

Vega 56 is a pretty good GPU. If I was you I'd hold on both, and start shaving shekels for a six core CPU of some sort. More headroom for the 600,000 random processes in a typical Windows deployment, something that usually isn't captured very well in a benchmark/review rig. Yeah, IK, but a new moth...

Re: CPU vs GPU Bottlenecks

I upgraded my PC specifically for gaming, and jumped from an i7-2600 to a i5-9600K - not a 2700X - to get the highest minimum frames possible. It was really hard to find data that focused on the CPU bottleneck - TechSpot/HardwareUnboxed is good. I actually found a benchmark somewhere (russian forum ...

Re: CPU vs GPU Bottlenecks

Yes, the problem is that CPU frame time can only be decreased by upping processing power, whereas GPU frame time is easily tweaked in graphics settings. If you choose wrong with the CPU, you're out hundreds of dollars, whereas with the GPU you can always pick whatever is within your budget and make ...

Silly question, is 4.9 Ghz your all-core turbo? My six core multiplier is 46x and I'm wondering if I can push it further.

Box plots: more information in a single plot

I've recently become interested in achieving 1% FPS above 100 for multiplayer, and have been scouring the web for benchmarks that test hardware/software configurations for this level of performance rather than the 60 fps limit. In doing so, I've come across a publication that visualizes their result...

I'm quite content with my Bose SoundTrue. I think they're discontinued, but you can snap them on Amazon for about $70. They feature highly on rtings.com as well, which seem to be one of the few sites with sound testing methodology.

I agree with Captain Ned. Does the gurgling occur when the insulated line from the outside unit becomes bares as it enters the inside unit?

Re: Can solder under IHS "go bad"? should I delid?

Any software reading of temperature is most likely going through one "Winbond" chip, so several software readings corroborating don't mean much. The only way to get a real reading is with a thermocouple.

Let me correct myself then, something some people don't seem capable of doing: maybe some people were so ecstatic to see a 28-core 5 GHz part they suspended their belief in physics ... after getting clean underwear.

You can't use that word! That's OUR word! Having said that... maybe a few people didn't think the chip was overclocked but nobody ever thought it was 10nm so it's great Anand dispelled rumors that didn't exist in the first place. #TheyNeverConfirmedItWasn'tReallyThreadripperInDisguise Maybe some pe...

Re: Nvidia Partner Program - Illegal?

First, you obviously can, because you did. That's just my opinion. I didn't give any sort of legal opinion with legalese. 1) Nvidia has a brand development co-marketing agreement for which it provides all or most of the funding in which the language involved suggests that dual-branding might be dis...

I'm not fixated on that at all, I am asking what is anti-competitive about this partnership's non-disputable (that is, the stuff that is officially known and accepted by both sides, not rumors about extortion and so forth) details? I cannot comment on how it legally stands, all I can do is reproduc...

Re: Nvidia Partner Program - Illegal?

If I offer poor arguments, I'd rather be corrected than insulted, or answered with an unexplained drive-by about monopsony. I remain confused as to why you and the other guy are so fixated on total graphics market share when nvidia only competes in a well defined subset of that market.

Uhhhhhh You do realize that you are taking someone's two-sentence summation of someone else's video from a reddit discussion, and you are taking it out-of-context and without providing any explanatory reason why or how it's related. You don't even cite it. I mean, this is not how cognitively normal...

Re: Nvidia Partner Program - Illegal?

You should calm yourself, and possibly take a trip to google for TAM, such as when I did that with Ryu's retort. As I will repeat, Nvidia does not compete much, if at all, in the integrated GPU business. If it becomes the sole supplier of products in its market segment by pushing AMD out, it would b...

Re: Nvidia Partner Program - Illegal?

I don't think so? Any chip maker sells chips to a wider and wider network of buyers through various middle men layers. At no point is there a sole buyer that is abusing its purchasing power to influence the market. If HP was the only server maker that would be what you describe. Nvidia does not comp...

Re: Nvidia Partner Program - Illegal?

By your logic, there is no such thing as a monopoly since the TAM for any company is a subset of the entire global market. Intel doesn't have a monopoly on server chips because its server chip shipments are only a small fraction of total chips of any kind shipped. There's also a question of whether ...
