When you want to learn about BT codecs, the SoundGuys articles are pretty much required reading:

Re: Desktop to replace laptop

The above would be kind of a spendy build, but it should give you plenty of performance. Of course, since you are moving from a laptop, do you need a new monitor too? This may put a big dent on the budget. What is your budget btw? We can step down (or even move up!) a bit once you let us know your n...

Re: Installing an SSD

The motherboard does have a 2.5 inch bay (albeit is a rather peculiar arrangement - with the ssd being placed vertically on the case side). What I wanted to know is whether 2.5` come with their own screws - because I'm not 100% sure whether those which came with the motherboard fit. I remember usin...

Rosetta@Home side is also running out of WUs. They are planning to add capacity soon. Also, WCG announces that they will be adding a COVID-19 related project "soon" (it's been a week and they are not fast enough to take advantage of all the exposure). Right now I have configured R@H to be ...

I got more laughs out of watching those car cam karma videos than this. The message behind this is somewhat serious. I also don't see why we have to laugh at the slimmer b***h either when we are supposed to have compassion for people, even the bad-mannered ones. Also, the pacing and acting were quit...

Re: Extreme Game Accelerator AIC - An idea

That thing is just an adapter, not an "accelerator".

Gaming performance is still mostly bounded by GPU and CPU. I/O is still not a tier-1 factor. Even if the idea works you are still not optimizing the right area.

Know anyone with a huge pile of cash who would be willing to buy it from the new owners and pump a bunch of investment into it to hire staff and acquire hardware to be reviewed? I don't think anything short of that will right this listing ship. And in the current economic climate I would question t...

The usual clicking noise from the Toshiba is not inspiring confidence over the long term. Yes, I have one of their performance line 5TB drives and it seems ok so far.

Hate to say it, but if you have lower end hardware and/or not getting WUs anyway, you could divert some of your hardware resources to Rosetta@Home to help on that front. They have some COVID-19 computation going on as well.

You need share permissions and NTFS permissions to match in order for the folders to be available. BTW, don't use that Share with certain people one, I never got that to work. Use the Advanced Share options. I tried matching share and NTFS permission, but the folders I want to share are still not a...

That's why I never boot to my real OS with new RAM until I memtest'ed it for at least overnight (it is getting longer nowadays as there are more gigabytes to cover).

Re: Lowest TDP video card?

Not sure about on the *nix side, but on Windows you need to make sure the video drivers are installed so that power management can kick it. Otherwise you won't get that 10W TDP on idle, or at the very least, get the fan to not scream. So I figure you need the drivers.

So what are Fenix and EBL rebrands of? Are they decent as well? Looks like Nitecore itself also sells their branded batteries.

Related question: what is the general opinion of those batteries with a micro USB port to save on getting a real charger? Giving up too much in capacity?

Re: PSU longevity question

Some may disagree with me, but a mid-range Corsair CX-550 on promotion (or CX-M depending on which is on promo) is good enough for me. The OEM has changed, but 45A+ on the 12V rail (540W) and 5 year warranty are good enough for me. Not as extended as JAE, but I have a CX500 bought in 2014 and put in...
