Re: Something's different...

Maybe the reason TR couldn't survive on ad revenue alone was because they only used "polite" ads, and not the irritating ones the rest of the internet chooses? (autoplay videos, slow javascript inserts in the body of the articles, link hijacking, hidden click-once overlays, why am I bring...

Re: Something's different...

The control panel link happens to be particularly egregious as it is referring to the "user control panel" in the context of the paragraph, and making it a like will immediately imply that it takes you to said user control panel. In the context of subscriptions and credit card management,...

Re: cancel sub - [email protected] not a valid email address?

I've sent a message to Renee about it. Really sorry for the hassle. You can also PM askfranklin. I've suggested that getting the Stripe applet back on the subs page should be the #1 priority of all site changes. Unfortunately, there's nothing more I can do about it.

Re: TR BBQ XVI 8/10/19 - Official Thread

I got all fancy and made a PayPal link. Not to discourage donations, but to keep things simpler, I'll just say that I'll get the tent no matter what happens. If we reach $320 I'll let everyone know. Thanks!

Just caught up with this, and I appreciate that you've fronted up here. However, I'm done participating on the front page (sorry, no more cat jokes) until we see how this pans out. In the meantime, how do I go about cancelling the auto-renewal for my subscription? The "subscriptions" page...

Re: Something's different...

We're a friendly bunch, but Renee is stepping into a hostile environment no matter how you slice it. For one, she's the first of probably many future writers. Second, she doesn't come from a background with the site like the rest of us. Compound that with being the first writer to join the site with...

Re: Something's different...

There's plenty of plugins that can apply custom css to individual sites. I'm using one called stylish. I even tried sharing my crummy css code I've pieced together if people are curious. I think the css can be pulled straight from that link if people prefer a different solution. I think some browse...

Re: TR BBQ XVI 8/10/19 - Official Thread

Let's talk tents. Last year, weather worries finally got me to have a tent setup out of an abundance of caution (as the CEOs say these days). It ended up being a pretty big hit even though we didn't need to use it for shelter from the rain. This year, the same "if it looks like it's going to ra...

We've done what we can. I'm not freaking out because I know why the dev hasn't made any other moves yet (it's logical, but it's not my information to share). However, except for that, I'm in the same boat as the rest of you, waiting to see if what we all want will be implemented. Just chugging alon...

I feel really bad for this site. I don't comment and post much, but I read a lot of the content and visit the forums frequently. This is one of my 3 morning stops. But if you can only afford to pay your staff, well... This is key, though. If we (as a community) can help fund hardware purchases for reviews of the caliber seen here while the site can pay for the staff to not volunteer 100%...that feels like a solution of sorts to me. I know from experience that...

Re: Something's different...

I don’t know that it was ever clear about what hardware was bought versus provided. I’m sure it was at least mentioned as a footnote in each review, but I don’t remember that information after reading it. So not obvious to everyone what that meant. And we have no feeling for how much budget is allo...
