Re: Ghost in the Shell SAC - First Assault Online?

Didn't even now this was out but saw the trailer and to me it just looks like a re-skinned CoD game. Don't know... for me the gits universe was never about the combat. Have you played xcom - enemy within or enemy unknown? Single player but damn it's a fun and somewhat futuristic game. Or for more FP...

Re: Building a new PC mainly for gaming !

Welcome! In that price range I would probably look at the second hand market. Gaming PC's can lose as much as 30-40% of their value after a year so if you know what to look for you can make great deals. If you do manage to find some second hand gaming machines feel to post them and we can say yay or...

Yeah, he's been doing the techreport thing forever it feels like. He's a great writer but it's good to shake things up every now and then, worst comes to worst he can always come back and write more TR articles with a new perspective on things.

Re: The writing in Fallout 4 is garbage. *MAIN STORY SPOILER

FO3's plot wasn't phenomenal but it was decent I've been playing RPG's for 20 years and FO3 has probably the most idiotic, convoluted and incoherent main story I've ever come across. I know Call of Duty games with better and more coherent story telling. The FO3 writing is like a caricature of itsel...

Re: The writing in Fallout 4 is garbage. *MAIN STORY SPOILER

@Auxy I can only agree, extremely disappointed with Fallout 4. I can easily deal with the graphics which seem to be from 2008, what I can't deal with is the stupidity of the writing and removal of RPG elements. I don't even think Fallout 4 is an RPG anymore, it's more like borderlands with some &quo...

Re: ASIO vs WASAPI vs DirectSound

Wasapi exclusive-mode bypass the windows mixer Just be careful of that distinction. You can use WASAPI in shared-stream mode (what everything running on your computer uses), which does use the Windows mixer, so you should be clear that your application is in exclusive mode. Yeah, I'm assuming that ...

I'm probably one of those snobbish people but both Asio and Wasapi bypass the windows mixer while DS uses it. To be honest it's interesting that you hear a difference between Asio and Wasapi because there really shouldn't be one, or not much at least. I would refrain from forming strong opinions reg...

Re: Faster RAM = dramatic performance improvement!

The 4790k is a cpu that benefits from faster ram, lots of benchmarks show improvements across the board. But gaming is a little different, maybe you'll gain 1-3 fps. Maybe you'll take away some microstutter. Hard to tell. If you're building a "gaming computer" I'd recommend going for 2400m...

Re: Witcher 3 Stuttering with new patch

I have an idea.

Make a proper save game and name it something. Exit witcher 3 and start it again, don't choose continue, instead load the save game you created.

I've seen strange things like that in other games. New Vegas I think it was.

It's worth a shot.

Re: Witcher 3 Stuttering with new patch

Win8.1 with 670GTX cards in SLI, 1440p, medium graphics settings, about 50-60 fps. Smooth as butter. Only 2GB of vram but not a problem. Don't know. Could be AMD/win10 issue? Did you try the lowest graphics settings? Other than that seems like maybe it should try to pre-fetch more stuff to vram, you...

Re: 24" versus 27" 4K display

My prefered size and resolution right now is 27 inch and 2560x1440. For gaming it's much easier to drive than 4k yet offers plenty of real estate. 4k still has issues with sizing in a lot of applications IMHO. If you're into photo editing a 4k is probably heaven, for everything else I'd stick with 2...

SOMA - Survival Horror With Epic Sci-Fi Story

I'm not usually one for survival horror games, but this one has such a good story that you really should give it a shot. Yes... I bet you that somewhere in a dark basement someone is hunched over his screen looking for proof that it's all fake, in another basement somewhere someone is scanning for aliens.... or Elvis maybe.

The audiobook version of The Martian is really well narrated, excellent voice actor.

Re: Switched back to my CRT... am I insane?

I had a Sony trinitron (one of the best CRT's around) before I finally switched to an EIZO flatpanel. The things I noticed the most was that I got significantly less eye fatigue after a long day with a good quality flatscreen. And now that I'm on a ROG Swift it's left my old CRT firmly in the dust. ...

Re: Considering buying a VW GTI. Am I crazy?

I would be wary of buying a DCT or CVT transmission for stop and start commuting in a hilly city. A classic automatic transmission has a fluid torque converter, meaning you can keep it in first gear and stand still or creep up a hill and it won't hurt the car one bit. You can stand in that hill with...

Re: Considering buying a VW GTI. Am I crazy?

BMW have really lost their "ultimate driving machine" mojo in the past couple of decades. My cousin and his wife owned a BMW X5 that was quite unreliable. It was expensive to repair and it didn't ride, handle or brake as well as a less expensive Acura MDX, either. For that matter, the BMW...

Re: Considering buying a VW GTI. Am I crazy?

BMWs have the same problems VW have. As my mechanic friend used to say when people brought up buying a BMW, "Don't do it." Depends on the year and model too. My circle of friends have decent records of 328s, 330s, and 335s. I got a sample of one where an X3 was not so hot. The volume sell...

Re: Help picking a monitor!

I highly recommend a 27 inch 2560x1440 monitor. If you can get one that's IPS even better.

2560x1440 my new favorite resolution, lots of real estate and just the right amount of pixel density. Windows and application scale great with it, unlike 4k which makes a lot of stuff too small.

Re: Considering buying a VW GTI. Am I crazy?

If diesel is an option I think you can get a BMW E90 335d with automatic gearbox as standard for around $20.000. Don't dissmiss it because it's a diesel... it's one hell of a car and one special diesel. 265hp, 425 ft-lb. Can easily be tuned to 330-350hp for $400-500. It even sounds sporty for a dies...

My Genesis Coupe has the ZF 6HP19 tranny out of those E90 330i cars...and I don't know what you're smoking. It's a fantastic gearbox, and the shifts are buttery smooth if I'm not driving like a maniac (which...let's be honest, is rare). It is a fantastic automatic gearbox, but if you ask me the man...
