Re: Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner flight vid

It is an impressive video. Even if they are only flying at a 45 degree angle at maximum that's still impressive in an airliner that size no matter how much it has in fuel/passenger weight.

Re: Steam Summer Sale 2015

It depends on where you buy on G2A.com as to whether something shady is going on or not. If you buy from the main store then it should be completely legit. If you buy from the Marketplace then you are buying from individuals which is where it gets hazy. Some people may be selling keys they bought an...

Re: Desktop Broadwell launched

Wonder if there will be an i3 with iris pro 6200 for the desktop for cheap?? Given they even removed it from Skylake for their I5 chips it suggests Intel doesn't believe Iris Pro is really ready for the desktop market. Broadwell was an experiment that worked but not well enough to get Intel to comm...

Re: Sub $200 displays?

144 Hz is a premium and is generally only available on TN displays. 2560x1440 is schweet, but also carries a significant premium. But besides that, haven't we seen a lot of 24" IPS 1080p displays go on sale for <$150 in the past year? That's a pretty good starting point. Maybe it doesn't hit a...

A couple of things strike me off hand. One, congrats on the graduation. Two, SLI can cause issues with a number of games so I'm not sure if it's worth it over a better single GPU. That being said your system shouldn't have any issues giving you good performance at the resolution you are going for.

DISM can be helpful I had some errors that kept coming up in my Win8.1 logs that I couldn't get rid of in any other way and I was able to get rid of some of them using DISM. It's not a perfect solution but it can fix issues that SFC won't touch.

Re: Must Have/Good/Useful Programs for Win 8.1 & Beyond

The list presented so far is good. I prefer ffdshow over the CCCP codec pack but either is good. I'm also a fan of Irfanview for image viewing and WinDirStat to give me a good overview of where my disk space has gone. Beyond that there are system tuning tools like HWinfo64, MSI Afterburner, Speedfan...

Say what you will about Krogoth, but he has one thing right. Micromanagement has been important and it's becoming critical in the LoTV multiplayer. Many of the changes Blizzard has made are designed to force players to concentrate on their micro-management. Sure, they still need to have a good econo...

Re: The Loudness War may well be over, courtesy of Youtube

Actually I found his comments quite reasonable. Yes, he suggests people should listen at 96-kilohertz/24-bit but his main point is that they should be recording at that rate. Which makes sense as recording at anything less is losing information that can't be retrieved. Sure, they might lose more inf...

I may be one of the few but I have all of my games installed. Currently GOG takes up 36GB. Origin takes up 185GB. Ubisoft takes up 20GB and finally... Steam takes up 705GB. I'll have to admit that I haven't played many of the games. Just picked them up cheaply due to them being free (Origin/EA has d...

Re: Monitor Watch 2015

I think you covered it in your reply. When looking at cheap TN panels the color shift can be noticed just by turning your head on larger monitors. That isn't true with IPS monitors. With an IPS monitor you need to actually look at the monitor from further off angle to notice the color shift. That ma...

Re: Need help choosing upgrade components for son's PC

Is it just me or do those GPU clock speeds look particularly low? I would expect them to be around 1000 for the GPU and memory instead of around 350. Though the graphic test results don't look bad and even if the GPU is running slow that shouldn't make the system feel slow.

Auxy, I don't see what you see when I look at that review. Only in Watchdogs does the 280X clearly beat the 285. In Crysis 3 the 285 narrowly loses out to the 280X as it does in Borderlands 2. In Thief the 285 clearly beats the 280X. In power usage and noise they appear to be fairly close. Which bea...

Yes, it seems like something isn't quite right with your setup. Depending on what cooler you are using you should be seeing temps of under 40C while idle even with the Intel cooler. Also if your system is rebooting while installing drivers it seems that you may have other issues. What is your curren...

Re: i7 Gaming - Still No Benefits?

To bring this back on target what is the OP's customer's intended resolution going to be? If it is going to be 1080P for the next few years then is there really an issue with having a high performing GPU with only 2GB of memory? If the customer intends to move to 4k then it certainly makes sense to ...

It seems to me that every bit of good news for AMD is tied to 2016. That means this year will see AMD coasting. Now hopefully that means no bad news to tank the stock but also nothing that will provide a good reason for the stock price to rise. So I'm not expecting a big increase in share price this...

The only refurb experience I had was with my video card that had the fan stop. It would start to spin at power on and then stop after a few seconds. I very much doubt you will find a Microcenter in Australia but perhaps there is another company doing a similar deal. Is it a rumor when the company says it at their own convention? Blizzard said this next expansion will be a stand alone game. The only freemium complaint you might make about Starcraft 2 is that they let people play the base MP game for free, but that's just to get more people playing. I'll add my vote to the 750 TI. It's not an ideal card but it will deliver decent performance at 1080P or less and it won't require a new PSU.
