Re: Recommend a 65" TV -- the less SMART the better

I never see webOS when I am using my LG 4K TV. I don't even use the TV's remote. I have both an Apple TV 4K and Chromecast Ultra (controlled by my phone/tablet). The TV will turn on and switch inputs based on HDMI device activity. I use the LG app on my phone/tablet to power off the TV. That is my ...

Re: Recommend a 65" TV -- the less SMART the better

Absolutely freakin love my LG OLED TV (65"). It is fantastic in every conceivable way, except for price. Those suckers are expensive. But worth it, IMHO.

It has some smart stuff, of course -- they all do. But I don't really use it. It's connected to my Apple TV and Xbox One.

Iowa State is currently the best three-loss team in the country. Change my mind! Sucks that they won't be ranked unless they win out the rest of the season. That was a really rough start to the season. Iowa State at Texas! This is potentially for a berth in the Big 12 championship! OK so I was pess...

Re: Modern Macbooks...really worth it?

I am still of the opinion that MacBooks are still the best notebook hardware made. And I am a fan of macOS far more than WIndows. That said, the premium price Apple charges for additional memory and storage is somewhat sobering. So the answer to "is it worth it" is really an individual cho...

Say what you might, but this is an advantage Apple gained by controlling the entire hardware/software stack from top to bottom. Even x86 would be a lot faster if you could recompile the entire software stack to make use of specialized instructions sets. Modern compilers already do precisely that. O...

Re: Samsung Graphene Batteries in 2019?

Faster charging implies lower internal resistance, which (on the surface) is a good thing. But it likely also means a lot more potential for 'splody-ness in the event there's an internal short or physical damage to the battery, since it means all of the stored energy can be dumped a lot faster. See...

Here's the surprising thing that follows from that: Google pays $1B/month to Apple because they consider it worth the investment. In other words, Google is making (much) more than $1B/month off of that relationship. Kinda puts into perspective how lucrative scraping and serving all your personal inf...
