Re: Could a SSD kill two systems?

Power source is my first guess as well. Are you sure when you installed the new one you used the new power adapter that came with it? The only reason I can think of for it to be the SSD would be if there was some sort of rootkit on the drive that is messing with the system and bricking it. But then ...

Re: Grim Dawn - The Diablo 2 Successor We Deserve

no questions asked. Seeing as I never heard of it I would have a lot of questions. For starters, what makes this a more worthy successor to Diablo 2 than POE or Torchlight. Also, with recent content patches I find D3 to be a plenty worthy successor to D2. At the moment my biggest complaint with D3 ...

said no one ever. After a nice death-defying drive in to work this morning I was promptly rewarded for my heroism with 10 calls in 15 minutes from people piloting our Citrix work from home program. I am so glad all the department leads forwarded our message about testing this **** ahead of time. :ev...

Swing and a miss

Looks like a C236 workstation class motherboard has finally made it onto the US market and it's an ASUS. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813132731&Tpk=c236 Unfortunately the board has neither ECC memory support nor SLi gpu support so it is pretty much an overpriced barebone...

Re: Diablo 2 Patched Today

I am curious as to what extent they are taking the "improved cheat and hack detection." The game has been around so long that moding yourself an xp charm to level is almost common place. I also like to use hero editor to undo talent allocation. It would be a shame to loose some of that. So...

Upgrade to simplicity strength and a change in how it and depth diggers + prime calculates. This may be a good time to dust off my LoN Barb build: http://www.diablofans.com/builds/76679-frenzy-barb-v2 Just found him an ancient In-geom too, just need to farm for a Ramalamadingdong.

Just set down D3 for a week after HOS released a D3 necro hero. I didn't quit to play HOS mind you, I busted out my soulstone thumb drive and started leveling a pet-necro. Can't wait to see necro in D3 for real!

No change to memory size or speed. I am curious if they will ever decide it worth putting 3d memory onto this or if that simply won't be cost effective any time soon.

I assumed he meant "Photoshop Elements". Ah, in that case the 750ti might be the biggest pain point in the current machine (not knowing what the current cpu and ram looks like). Even when the 750ti was released it wasn't really meant for more than a step up from discrete graphics for thos...

Re: New Build Advice

If you can't talk him/her down from an i5 then I would save some money and go with z87 or z97 haswell. I am also not sure what he/she could possibly need 16gb of RAM for but I am guessing he/she is stubborn about that too? As for driving 3 displays, if you have display port on the board you could pr...

Re: Nvidia Driver Does not Recognize 970

I have resolved similar issues by downloaded the latest driver straight from the nvidia website, Uninstalling geforce experience, uninstalling display drivers, restarting, and then installing the driver directly. After which, experience could be put back on the machine if desired but I have had bett...

Re: I5 Gaming build advise

My general rule to go by is this, If you are upgrading to a CPU with a new socket, it pays to get as many of the features that socket currently has to offer. This will ensure that you have the longest compatibility support as possible and can get by with just component upgrades for a few generation ...

Re: I5 Gaming build advise

I am not big on going cheap or value brand when it comes to your Mobo. The price difference between reliable bottom end and a fully loaded board is minimal and upgrading a board is one of the most involved things you could do in the future. That being said, if you are looking to save some cash you c...

Re: Waiting for Kaby Lake?

Skylake should be plenty energy efficient. For a HTPC I would recommend something from the Xeon family that has a low factory clock but turbo boost enabled. Consumer level boards are just starting to hit the market for these chips and they have all the latest and greatest goodies you could need.

Re: sudden loss of video and audio hard shut off needed.

If second hand parts are more inline with your budget/needs, I would highly recommend looking up the location of a local electronics recycle. It is usually a far safer bet than Goodwill and the parts you find there are often coming from a sterile corporate environment rather than a unkempt cat hair ...

Excellent news. The release of Vulcan and its adaptation could very well be the driving factor behind me suffering through all the MS Saas-OS BS or throwing my hat in the Ubuntu bucket.

Edit: Or better yet, roll back down to W7

For whatever little it is worth. I had similar symptoms on a PC two years ago, and in the end discovered the culprit was the wireless NIC. I switched to a usb dongle and the problem went away. Put NIC in a different PC and the issue followed it. I am not sure what caused the issue, but it makes sens...

Not sure if the drive still works or not. To disassemble the drive you must first eject the tray then remove the face plate. Since the tray was jammed I could not get the face plate off and had to take the drive apart piece by piece. One of the ide cables did not survive reassembly and I am waiting ...
