Not to derail the thread, but I really miss my Windows Phone. Really a shame it never caught on and I still think it's a superior OS. Oh well...

First smartphone was Verizon's version of the Samsung Galaxy S2. It sucked
Went to the HTC 8X Windows phone on Verizon. Awesome phone but you know...Windows phone.
Now have an iPhone 6. Moderately happy with it.

Re: Eclipse on August 21

In the 99% zone and decided not to drive south for the full 100% effect. Got the boat and took the kids out on the lake to have some fun and watch the eclipse. Apparently a LOT of other people had the same idea. It never got really dark, but kind of an weird semi-darkness around. We all had the &quo...

Re: Eclipse on August 21

My area will have 99% eclipse. I can drive south about 30 miles for 100% but all indications are that traffic will be gridlock everywhere. I'm only working until noon on Monday so I can experience this with my kids, but I'm afraid I may have a hard time just getting home from work. Grrrrrr!!!! There...

Re: Portable chargers

I just bought that same Anker one for my wife a couple of weeks ago. It works great. She was able to completely charge an iPhone 6S and an iPad 2. You're right, the build quality seems solid, especially for the price.
No complaints here.

Re: TV Shows - Share Them (NO SPOILERS)

The 100 is pretty good. There are moments that are sorta pfffft. Billions (Showtime). Really good, but moves fast. I usually watch each episode twice to make sure I don't miss anything. Homeland (Showtime). This was a great show the first few seasons. This latest season is terrible and unwatchable. ...

I had/have low T also, but I'm 53. My level was below 300 so my Urologist prescribed injections of Testosterone CYP 2,000 mg every 30 days. I've been on it for about 5 months and there's a significant difference in the way I feel and my energy level. My wife and I typically have sex 3 times a week, ...

Re: What cases and PSUs are you guys using?

Had a Corsair Obsidian 650D with a Corsair AX750 psu.. Really liked the case features, but it's huge. The front intake fan is 200mm and is prone to making noise. Also had to replace the top exhaust fan because of noise issues. Beyond that, it's a great case, and the AX750 is top notch. Just passed i...

My brother in law is running almost that same config with a 5850 gpu and it does a pretty good job playing most older games at 1080P. I would ask if any of your kids might be interested in some PC gaming or get them interested in it. The boys and I have fun playing Team Fortress 2 which runs pretty...

Re: What to do with old PC?

Yeah, backup/media server is probably a good choice. If you're interested in networking you could get a cheap ethernet card and turn it into a router. CPU-wise it'd probably do fine as an HTPC also, but you might want to get a cheap GPU for it if you decide to go that route. Along with the GTX275, ...

Re: What to do with old PC?

Media server is a good route. Depending on the age of the kids you could also use it as an unnetworked secured backup box for holding onto all of their photos and homework in case they want to recover those in a decade from now. The only issue you are dealing with running an old machine this way is...

What to do with old PC?

I built a PC about 10 years ago based on TR's System Guide and it's still working great. I'd like to re-purpose it into something, but I'm not sure what is best. Basic specs: Abit IP35 Pro Q6600 2x2gb of DDR2 800 (non ecc) random gpu. (I have a spare GTX275 available) CX430 psu (I have a spare corsa...

It wasn't today, but it was a few weeks ago. 2010 BMW 335i Convertible. Had a weird noise from the rear, and kept losing air pressure in right rear tire. Went to BMW specialist shop (not a BMW dealer). They said I needed 2 rear tires and one rim was bent and needed to be repaired. The price was exce...

Same boat, different...err...ocean. I just upgraded from a i7-950, but I went the Kaby Lake route. I agree with the previous posts that a high quality 550-650 watt psu would work fine and save a enough dollars to step up the cpu. There's no reason these new systems can't last just as long as our tru...

Check out the performance charts here, particularly the random read response times at QD4: http://techreport.com/review/31177/patriot-hellfire-480gb-nvme-ssd-reviewed/2 The Samsung drive is more expensive than the cheapest SSDs (which go for $250/TB), but it performs ...

Re: Final decisions for new build

I'm waiting it out for a few months. Hopefully Nvidia will start using FreeSync or maybe prices of G-sync will become more reasonable. If you're going to wait two to three months, it is likely that a Radeon Vega + FreeSync monitor would provide better performance for your dollar than a GeForce GPU ...

Re: Final decisions for new build

NVidia's proprietary G-Sync system maintains its price premium. G-Sync monitors cost about $200 more than otherwise-identical monitors without variable refresh rate. VESA standard adaptive sync ("FreeSync") is nearly free. FreeSync monitors cost $0 to $20 more than otherwise-identical mon...

Currently on 24 inch 1920 x 1080, but I have plans of going to a 27 inch 2560 x 1440 at some point this year. Kinda waiting to see if prices will ever drop on G-Sync monitors.

A slight boost at best and then maybe a little harder a little farther down the road, but nothing inte...

Re: Mouse Suggestion Please

FWIW, I just bought a Logitech G502 because the reviews said it was great, awesome, blah, blah, blah. I like a lot of the things about it, but it's small and makes my hand cramp, and I have normal sized hands. Plus the thumb buttons are not easy to reach compared to the MX518 I had previously.

FWIW, I replaced the CMOS battery and now I can make changes in the BIOS and it doesn't shut down when I F10 save. Who knew? Not me, I've never seen that one before. I've seen it, but not for years (I think the last time was a Pentium II or III mobo). Much more common is replacing the CMOS battery ...
