Re: Something's different...

Scott got a job at AMD helping them reduce micro-stuttering in their video drivers (something he'd been the first to discover, explain, and test for) and sold this site to Adam (the biz guy) so that it could keep its journalistic integrity. Adam wasn't able to keep the site going; I suspect that Sco...

This Orbi doesn't. Couldn't say about my earlier wifi routers because they had Tomato installed for most of their service.

Re: Wireless router recommendation

I've been looking at Orbi. They just had a Wi-Fi 6 version release, though that's way out of budget. They have Wi-Fi 5 (AX) 2-pack versions in your price range. I've had an AC-type Orbi for a couple years now, one base and one satellite. Works great, no wifi problems. I could wish for some higher-e...

Re: Microsoft dropping guide in Windows 8.1 pro w/ Media Center

I am here to protest the unfair or perhaps illegal decision by Microsoft to discontinue Windows 8.1 pro with Media Center Guide support in January of 2020. Why are you operating under the misapprehension that Microsoft has a staffer monitoring TR with enough pull to fix this? For us they wouldn't e...

Re: Glucowise

Uh, well. I've emulated a PDP-10 using SimH and run 4.3BSD-quasijarus on an emulated VAX, but nothing that old in anger. Oldest kit I've laid paws on would have to be an Apple ][+ in middle school when it was already past due for the knacker's.

It still had mixed-case, though. :P

The Dark Crystal miniseries on Netflix. I've never seen the original movie but I'm enjoying it so far... and passing my willpower check to not visit tvtropes.

A cow-orker 100% buys into the carburetor conspiracy theory, fluoridated water being bad, and a whole raft of other conspiracy theories, up to and including that WTC was a controlled demolition. Somehow he sees fit to mock flat-Earthers and deride them because no matter how you explain how they're ...

A field expedient solution is to use a darkener extension like Dark Background and Light Text. It's not the old blue theme but it's not bright white either.
