Replaced it with a $70 "ace power" brand According to the guys over at SPCR, it's an import from Europe, supposed to be very high quality. It FEELs highquality. Got a really solid weight to it, evenly distributed, not packed in the center, one 120mm fan in the bottom (may swap it out for a Nexus, we...

This thread is kind of a counterattack to that one.

I think ~3 years under extreme conditions is pretty decent for a PSU

Antec TP430 kicked the bucket

After lasting through two computer systems, one heavy overclocker and one silent-runner, with massive mods (dremeled, patched, fans added and taken away, thermosister added, etc), it finally died, peacefully, without taking anything else out during a reboot. My faith in Antec is as strong as ever, m...

ASRock hibernation issue

So the mATX board I got for my CarPC is made by ASRock (Asus budget brand). It's the K7S41GX. I'm running a Barton 2800 in it. The problem I'm having, is that when I hibernate the machine, after saving to disck and shutting down, it starts right back up again, after about 3 seconds. When I just norm...

The, the repair tool would do nothing but make windows work, all my 3rd party apps would still need to be reinstalled, and that's the real pain.

Anyway

I've reformatted the drive with a 1gb partition as a spaceholder and windows installed on the second partition.

It's booting fine now, it'll do until I find myself an mATX board and get everything set up properly.

No, none of those things are the problem

If boot.ini or the MBR wasn't set up right, it wouldnt get half way into windows

Booting from a CD will be tricky :P

This is in my car computer

Looks like Im gonna have to unplug it and drag it inside if what Im trying now doesnt work.

Im gonna copy everything to my desktop, reformat with a dummy partition (10mb or something), and copy it all back

Yea but then I have to still redo all my program configs to point everything at C instead of D

Way too much hassle

It was always a single drive

The drive I was using before had two partitions, windows was installed on the second.

The computer boots, XP loads, but freezes on the Welcome screen.

Convince a drive to be D

I installed windows on the second partition of a drive (for reasons Im not getting into), I have since moved to a new drive, and I ghosted everything over. Its now on the only partition, so it's now the C drive, so of course windows won't boot. Is there any way, without totally reformatting and putt...

Anyone who walks into a retail store without having a decent idea of what they want is an idiot.

A sales persons job is to generate sales. If that means selling you a $400 all-in-one to do your taxes, so be it.

I'm impressed. THe guy didnt talk to me like I was an idiot, I explained that Id done basic low level scans of the HD outside of windows and got errors (I cant use PowerMax because I have a via chipset and it's a SATA drive), and he got it processed right away My replacement drive gets here in 5-7 d...

Not sure if this sort of information is allowed - bypass WPA

Just an interesting fact about the WPA defeating program I have - the latest version of Norton Antivirus updates detects it as a 'Hacktool' and automatically deletes it. I wonder if norton is cooperating with Microsoft to try and stop people from tampering with windows? EDIT BY MOD: Took out specifi...

XP Media Center drivers on XP home

Ive been looking around the Microsoft site for a while and I cant seem to track this down. Usually means you have limited or no connectivity, to use MS's term. Do a google search for the term plus networking and you should find returns that mention the error and it's fix. It's by itself, not on the networking icon. Ive been in the middle of using the net when it pops up many times, with ...
