Wed Dec 02, 2015 11:13 pm

Was just watching PCPER podcast. Ryan did a skype from a party in California. Sounds like Scott is going to AMD. Wow! Congrats Scott!

congratulations to him.

Thanks to the reorganization working in the GPU division shouldn't be bad.

Rumors before slipping through were of terrible origination. Now Scott should be able to easily influence one succinct group.

Good for AMD. Good for Scott. I'm sure worst comes to worst for AMD he'll have made a better salary for a year or two and can always jump back into writing. Or hopefully he writes some blogs for AMD about his work doing stuff inside the second.

Here's to hoping the pop[*] in AMD's stock price on Tuesday at 8am was due to this news going public, and the bottom on Wednesday at 2:45pm was when Scott's salary/benes/perks were announced!

Yeah, he's been doing the techreport thing forever it feels like. He's a great writer but it's good to shake things up every now and then, worst comes to worst he can always come back and write more TR articles with a new perspective on things.

At least he isn't selling TR out to another company. TR is the best independent site and I'm glad it is staying that way.

EDIT: Anandtech posted their congratulations to Scott as well. http://www.anandtech.com/show/9832/scot ... ech-report

When I first posted, I didn't know any of the details. I was trying to help the girlfriend with the printer when Ryan skyped in on his podcast. I wasn't sure it was Scott they were talking about at first.

I'm pretty excited to hear this announcement. If Scott can make a real impact on user experience for AMD, I think it could really help their product lineups. Not sure how much impact one person can have, but they seem to be putting great people in place all over the company. I've been worried about AMD's future from a business perspective, but it seems like they have some exciting products coming in the next year. In hindsight, I wonder if Rory's decision to not pursue high end CPUs was a mistake. Of course Monday morning quarterbacking is easy, but it just doesn't seem there is enough margin in APU's. The graphics division seems to have been doing well, but with people like Scott making sure end user experience is a focus should help them to regain some market share. Can't wait to see the new cards from both AMD and Nvidia duke it out next year!

Anyway, I've really enjoyed reading Scott's content over the years, and can't wait to see what impact he has on AMD. Also curious to see what Jeff does the the site.

Congrats Scott!!

Good luck Scott! I'm not very articulate (too pendantic) but I have really enjoyed your articles and the way you and your cofounders have made this such a great review site and tech hang out.

First Anand leaves to work at Apple, now this. I wonder if this is the start of a trend?

As an aside, this explains why those Fury reviews were CLEARLY biased against AMD. :D

I'm sure his job will come with the next gen after Fury Nano... or the gen after that.

Congrats Scott!

You know, if TR does a Nano review now, it's gonna look funny. :P

Hopefully the guys keep up the podcast. I really enjoy it and the in depth coverage of topics. Maybe we'll see more of Jr Damage aka Gyromancer. I liked his video review of Battlefront. Also, keep bringing on David Kanter when new architectures are out! I really like those podcasts!

This sucks. It really does. If Scott whips AMD's drivers into shape and gets them good enough to make NVIDIA's look bad then it's going to really complicate my next GPU purchase in a few years. I thought the job of tech sites was to make it easier to decide what to buy! :P

It would take you 2,363 continuous hours or 98 days,11 hours, and 35 minutes of gameplay to complete your Steam library.
In this time you could travel to Venus one time.

I agree, I loved watching Scott and David talk about upcoming architectures and making educated predictions on the end result... good stuff.
