TR BBQ "2nd-10th" - Official Thread - July 23, 2016

Fri Dec 11, 2015 2:18 pm

Don't call it XIII folks!

We may have just celebrated 10 awesome years of TR BBQin' in 2013 but 2016's BBQ will be the 10th one to happen on Lake MI, I don't need any more reason than that to celebrate the 10th anniversary all over again, do you? I'm not sure what stops are left to pull out but if I find any I'll try to get rid of them. The revamped live-stream to TR's Twitch channel was a huge success last year so I particularly want to build on that. I want to look at everything, though, anything new or something that is already a feature that we could do even better. Because the shirt thing wasn't for everyone a couple people suggested a 50/50 raffle for fundraising, that could work but I'm open to other options as well. I'm hoping for some kind of 2016 specific TR BBQ apparel, though. Who likes hats?

No collage this year, just one pic, I call it "Serious Bubbles"

Update 5/27/16 - Neon Shirts Revealed!
Last year's addition of a fundraiser based on shirts was a pretty big success so I'm happy to announce that we are going to do it again this year! Of course, it wouldn't be the TR BBQ if we didn't ramp it up a notch or two so this year we are doing team jerseys for the fictional Tech Report Thorough Gerbils! As jerseys, it wouldn't be right if everyone on the team had the exact same one so we've got customizations to choose from! Obviously, you need to be able to get the right size but you can also pick a custom name and number to go on the back as well as your choice of four different colors (shown below). Sizes of this style shirt run from small up to 2XL but if you need a different size we can probably find something similar.

Image - $50 for shirts
Image - $30 for hats
Image - $75 for a shirt and hat combo

We can't have duplicate numbers on the team so numbers on the back of the shirt are first come first serve. You can lock up your shirt choice by using the donation buttons above, be sure to specify size, name, number, and color for each shirt. I will add the details about everyone getting a shirt in this post so everyone will know what numbers are already taken and so donors can confirm I have their reward correct.

Here's what they look like:

Color choices:

Hats!
We're also doing hats this year. The hats will be all black but the artwork will share colors with the artwork on the shirt and the thread used to embroider them will be offered with the same choice of neon colors as the shirts so they will match nicely.

Here's what will be on the hats:
Image
They will look something like this (my apologies for not perspective correcting the image):

In the interest of keeping this post clean the full details about the shirts are in this post (which has the old images and is outdated).

Shirt get!

1) Let's start with parking, we're going to do the same thing we've done the last couple years, it adds some walking but makes things less complicated overall. Read this post and this post from a couple years ago and you'll have all the details.

Dates:
2) Our normal sequence of events will be in place too:
Friday Evening - Pre-Party 7/22
Anyone that gets into town early and wants to hang out at the cottage and eat some pizza/sushi is welcome!
Saturday Early Afternoon - Main Event 7/23
You know the drill, show up between 11:00 and 1:00 and be ready to feast around 2:00.
Saturday Night - TR After Dark 7/23
FIRE is the one word to describe this part of the BBQ. We'll be sitting around one on the ground and shooting various kinds into the air.
Sunday Morning - Lakeside Breakfast 7/24
Anyone still in the area is invited to come back to the cottage and enjoy an informal breakfast and help put the finishing touches on the cleanup process.

Awesome! Thanks to birthdays being immutable, I know they're all on weekdays in July next year. The 15-17 and the 22-24 should both be possible for my clan and me.
I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do.

Outlook calendar says July is open as well, at least for now.

If I still lived in Michigan I could have made it. :(
It would take you 2,363 continuous hours or 98 days,11 hours, and 35 minutes of gameplay to complete your Steam library.
In this time you could travel to Venus one time.

Earlier is great! Mid-July-ish would be much easier for us. Might be able to bring the whole family.

lol what? That's not bad, yeah for el nino!! Actually only -3C here today. Last year -40C at night was a too common occurrence for my liking!

We can get into the low +30's C here in July though :) Having said that, 1 year a freak weather pattern came down and brought light flurries on July 1st, I think that was somewhere between 1999-2001??

ZGirl and I still believe in a shirt idea. It needs to say the following on it somewhere:

"You went full Gleek. You *never* go full Gleek." --LoneWolf and Z-Girl, TR BBQ
i9-9900K @4.7GHz, GIGABYTE Z390 Aorus Pro WiFi, 2 x 16GB G.Skill RipJaws V PC3000
Corsair 650D, Seasonic 1Kw Platinum PSU
2x HP EX920 1TB NVMe, Samsung 850 Pro 512GB 2.5", NEC 7200 DVDRW
Gigabyte RTX 2080 Super Gaming OC, Dell S2719DGF 27" LCD

LOL, love that. I've got a few ideas of my own but keeping them under-wraps for now.

Still have a month or two to go before I can set the final date but if anyone has specific suggestions for what weekends in July to specifically target or avoid please let me know.

We could collect some more TR quotes and put them all on one shirt to put up for grabs. :)

BTW, still a little over a month away from setting the final date but still planning on July sometime. 9th, 16th, 23rd, 30th, any preferences?

If possible not the 16th. Not that I could not make it work but there is something floating that weekend. Otherwise any of those dates are good for me.

But I do drive by your house and throw eggs at it still, in case you were wondering who it was. :)

Yeah, I missed two in a row due to two siblings getting married........all done with that though, so it will have to be something major to get me to miss this time.

Trying to found more interesting things to bring.

Just a few more days until I can confirm the date but I'm pretty sure it will be July 23rd.

I also wanted to tease that my sister and I are cooking up two pretty fancy gifts for BBQ fundraising donations since the BBQ shirts went over so well last year. :D

Holland, MI. There's no way you're parking a full rig close to the BBQ location; it's pure residential.

July 23rd is the official date of TR BBQ 2nd-10th! :D

That's less than four months already! Plenty of time to make plans to attend, frighteningly close if you are hosting it! :o
