I used to post here more often, back before life became too busy, but still regularly lurk. I think back 13 years ago, when the forum was smaller, and you could generally expect to always see spirited conversation between a handful of regulars. Me, not posting nearly as much, was very much an outsider, but still enjoyed reading all the posts, making me feel a bit more connected to my tech hobby.
Irrationally, when it comes to online personas, I always assume the people behind the handles are happy, productive people in real life who continue to joy tech and life in general even when I am away. It makes the forum feel like a safe harbor, where any stresses of real life melt away and the focus returns to the tech industry, fun toys, and entertaining nerd debate. With this in mind, it always brings me great pain to learn someone from real life, whom I only knew as an online presence, dies. It brings back reality. It is sad to think Licketysplit will never post again, and that one day all of the forum handles I know and recognize will grow dark.
