Something just occurred to me in light of the Yahoo news, and i went to Google Images to confirm it. Do you think there's some sort of archetype for female CEO washouts? Because this is a bit eery:

Watched bits of this earlier while it was live but had no real interest in it.
Elizabeth Holmes of Theranos speaks at science conference https://www.periscope.tv/w/1jMJgyPOBYlKL
Not sure if this will still be available after 24 hrs.

I don't have time to watch the video now, but here are a couple of articles describing what went down:
http://www.theverge.com/2016/8/2/123487 ... on-scandal
http://www.vanityfair.com/news/2016/08/ ... ranos-data

Instead of presenting data on the existing Edison testing machine and underlying technology, Holmes used the conference to announce the launch a new product (which is still in the prototype stage). Oh, and we're supposed to believe that they're still the cool kids on the block, because now they're going to run tests "in the Cloud".

W...T...F?!?? :o

If there was any doubt before that the emperor has no clothes, this should put those doubts to rest. Previously, I'd leaned towards believing that she was sincere, but was delusional and had bought into her own RDF. Now I'm starting to come around to the opinion that she's nothing more than a con artist.

I'm sure she's still perfectly delusional, but being coached on every aspect of how to act/respond by a team of advisors. With the amount of money involved (not just her own, but also from investors), she has no choice but to ride it out to the end, and do her best to salvage what's left along the way. That's going to have her looking both crazy and shady.

I watched the whole thing, while latter parts were over my head the portion about the device itself left more questions than answers. I think this presentation was too little too late. /shrug

Also she sounded very different from when she was on 60 Minutes...her voice was......deeper. Maybe it was the youtube vid I watched. /shrug.

Too little, too late, and NOT EVEN RELEVANT. It's for a different device than the one at the center of the controversy. She's basically asking for a "do over".

I lost the little respect I had for Vanity Fair after reading that article.

To which part(s) are you objecting?  I note (now that I've had time to read it in detail) that there was a few expletives in the form of a direct quote, but otherwise, much of the factual info in this Theranos article jives with reports from other sources, and the author quotes/names people extensively.

There are a few completely unnecessary remarks that push a particular agenda in the article. IMO the article itself would be decent if they didn't include those.

Given the other evidence that has been reported so far, I don't see anything egregiously untruthful in it. The same can't be said for Theranos' own PR.

Yeah, I suppose it's a bit of a hatchet job. But in this case it seems to be a justifiable one.

Well, it is a "feature/human interest" format piece, not pure news reporting.  In that format the author is usually permitted (even expected) to take a point of view provided s/he doesn't blatantly editorialize.  (And even actual editorials still have to be factual and non-libelous.)

tanker27's update on the VW emissions scandal reminded me that I hadn't mentioned the latest update on the other corporate scandal we've been following. Theranos just fired nearly half of their staff.

http://arstechnica.com/business/2017/01 ... hings-out/

Theranos wrote:
These are always the most difficult decisions; however, this move allows Theranos to marshal its resources most efficiently and effectively.

The restructuring follows a period of significant change at the company that has included the building out of its executive team with substantial additional regulatory, compliance and operational expertise.

Not sure what the point of doing that was at this point; it has become pretty clear that they don't have a viable product (and if they're shedding staff the odds of them developing one in the future are likely fading); so what good does having regulatory, compliance, and operational expertise on their executive team do them?

The slow-motion implosion continues.
