The other one we are working on is adding cooking to the "curriculum" this "semester" in schooling. We're thinking that might add some interest in the eating if he's part of the cooking. We're still looking for a cookbook that has nice pictures to draw some interest.

Check out Tasty? It's Buzzfeed's cooking channel/division/whatever. I think they've done a book (haven't seen it), but they do videos for quick visual references on the recipe. If nothing else, you can see if that's inspiring without having to buy a book.

And this is more of my personal cooking inspiration, but I am a fan of Alton Brown. An episode of Good Eats is goes through the reasons why his recipes are the way they are (which is great for making my own alterations), and there are plenty of visual gags.
On second thought, let's not go to TechReport. It's infested by crypto bull****.

Totally agree on AB, though he may be a little too..."scientific" for kids that young. He speaks in a way that may require the viewer to be a bit older to understand everything he's talking about, at least in the episodes I remember. Talking about chemical reactions and the like.

Man, I wish I could still do that. I love milk, and my wife and kid both drink it in large quantities (we go through a gallon of whole milk in about 5 days). If I drink a glass of milk, though, I'm going to be feeling the effects not too long afterward. I can still do cheese, ice cream etc., but straight milk I miss.

We have many of the Good Eats episodes on DVD. Good reminder to put them on rotation. I think those are entertaining enough for younger audiences and the technical isn't a big deal. Drew's fascinated with physics currently and loves showing me the center of mass of objects. We also recently did a thing on chemical reactions showing that exothermic reactions give off heat, such as a recent experiment with https://shop.deterrasystem.com/

Yeah, I'm pretty lucky. I have no (known) food allergies. Been drinking 2% percent milk pretty much every day of my life that I can remember. I love it. I loooove whole milk but can't justify the fat on a regular basis for myself.

I get what you're saying. I went to a dietitian (doctor referral) in February and was given a very strict plan to follow. It's easier to just do what I'm told than try to figure it out for myself.

Zero shame/shade/judgement coming from this way. Whatever it takes to get healthy and happy is cool with me. I went to a nutritionist/dietitian in high school because I was cutting so much weight for wrestling, but still wanted to be relatively healthy about it (nigh impossible tbh). Finally finished Jack Ryan. I’d give it a solid A. The 8-episode arc felt just the right length of a book. A 2-hour movies is just a little too short to tell a proper Clancy story without being confusing or cutting stuff out. This was just about right. 3 separate stories arcs tying together. THe acting was great. The story was pretty good. (One if the arcs was forgettable, but thats ok). Most of my fears about not being Clancy were unfounded. It clearly didn’t follow the Clancy Canon in the details, but I’m ok with it. It was a reboot in the same spirit but with different details.

I continue to be impressed with Amazon's customer service. They're not always perfect, but (so far) they always make things right. Received a defective HDD from them last week. Just initiated an RMA via the web site, and had to go through a live chat with a tech to troubleshoot. Within 5 minutes we were in agreement that the drive was defective, and the order for a replacement drive (with a cost of $0) had appeared in my order history.

Vehicle resonance, the sequel:

Back at the jobsite for most of the week and this time with a late-model Hyundai Tucson. Tried the back window or windows down, it's NOTHING like the Chevy, and exactly the same as when I tried it with my wife's '05 CR-V: lots of buffeting, some subsonic rumble and mild shaking, but no sustained oscillations or sensation that a Kaiju remake of Jurrasic Park was in progress.

Apparently the '10-17 Equinox really was designed using BassBox.

Highlight of the Tucson: Android Auto, my first time. That is a really slick integration.

Very, very heated about it today so just wanted to post something about it. Google's (and less so Apple's) decision to remove the headphone jack from their Pixel line of phones last year is so incredibly infuriating, and the lack of support and ecosystem they've developed for the existing hole they left is just as bad. It has convinced me to discontinue my purchasing of Google phones (long time Nexus/Pixel owner) until they fix the blatant issues they, themselves created.

Just a note from a Pixel 2 XL owner.

That's fair. I've long since lost the adapter that came with my Pixel 2. I'm just basically hosed.

It's so so so so so much deeper than just knowing where your adapter is. The Android USB-C audio ecosystem is...a dumpster fire. And I think that's being incredibly generous. Don't even get me started on the Bluetooth stack in Linux/Android.

Here's just a little taste of my disgust with Google and other Android OEMs.

In unrelated news, we are currently sitting in the ER. Our 3YO tried to cut the top of her ear off by falling out of a chair and landing on a paint can lip. It was hard enough that it severed the top 1” or so of the ear in Twain, about 2” long. Waiting to make an appointment with a plastic surgeon to to figure out what the next steps are. Apparently stitches aren’t a thing for cartilage.

This is the longest we’ve lasted through a year before hitting our deductible.

Oooof, at least it's a more or less vestigial body part. Hoping it's not too rough on her. Ears should hurt less than a lot of other things.

And yeah, I've busted my ears open (like along the top edge) multiple times from constantly banging heads in wrestling and had to have surgery a couple times to have them "reconstructed" though they still look like....not normal.

Oooouch, man. Hope that surgery isn't too big of a hassle. Poor kiddo.

I'm well aware of that issue, going back to last December or so when I lost the dongle. The analog vs digital transmission debacle is why I've never bought USB-C headphones, and I have no desire to do so. Here's a much older article from when this nonsense first started. It's a shame it hasn't really changed. https://www.androidauthority.com/3-5mm- ... -c-701507/

I opted for Bluetooth. It's not ideal but it works.

Dang it, I couldn't find the old article. That's the one I was looking for.

I just think it's insane they've pretty much made it a complete and utter hassle for 99 percent of the headphones in the world to work with their phones, for what right now is literally no reason. They're not building a phone like the iPhone X that NEEDS that space. There is still a chin on P2XL, and the decision is even more insane on the regular Pixel 2. I just can't.

The fog was fairly thick and the light was just starting to brighten.
They looked like ghost deer.

Got most of the details worked out for it to be usable. Had to increase the power to get through the load, i'm hoping i can get it back down with some antenna tweaking. Either way the battery will still last a full 14 hour day with no problems.

It also prevents a problem where the insides are reflected onto the cover bright enough to be visible in the image.

We have a Braum's (regional ice cream/dairy/farm fresh stuff) like, less than half a mile from the house. Their milk is ridiculous.

https://www.braums.com/dairy/milk/
Braum’s Whole Milk – fresh, delicious and natural! Every day we’re milking 10,000 cows several times per day on the Braum Family Farm. This farm fresh raw milk is then processed and bottled at our plant also located on the farm. It takes only about 24-36 hours for the milk to go from the cow to the carton to your neighborhood store! Now that’s fresh!
