The good: Activating Windows 10 with a Windows 7 key still works.

The bad: "Hi there, I'm Cortana!"

Ugh.

The main thing I took away from that is that the remanufactured engine doesnt come with spark plugs :x

Definitely cheap. The labor is only $75/hr which is good. The engine is only $1200. 2.4L Chevy EcoTec motor.

The spark plugs are just salt in the wound.

With all the disturbing news these days, I just thought I'd share this as an antidote: https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/ins ... next-door/

First it made me laugh out loud, and then it brought tears to my eyes. Yeah, the story's a few months old; but if you haven't seen it, it's pretty good.

Man, to me, college campuses are some of the most beautiful places. I loved how mine looked in spring. Here are a couple of where I went to school.

Or... you have a real SCM tool, but some of the devs don't know how to use it properly (or don't care). I've been in that situation too, and it is very frustrating.

These seem to be related.

The reason for my earlier post is that a classmate emailed me to let me know his part of our final project was done and attached, but he said it felt like he had to re-do parts of it over and over because his "backup system" kept "restoring files". After a couple of back-and-forth emails, I figured out that he was just working out of his OneDrive folder, which he uses to keep stuff in sync between his desktop and his laptop, so he always had the latest code on his laptop at school. It was renaming the edited file to append his desktop's name to it and kept putting back the version that was on Microsoft's servers / on his laptop.

I know they're the size of a small country, but I still can't help but be impressed that Google put an entire multiplayer game on their homepage for Halloween. They might end up taking over the world with their creepy robot dogs, but this at least is pretty cool.

Plex probably won't be much trouble. FreeNAS may be depending on how far you want to go down that rabbit hole. It'll still be easier than going fully custom though.

Ah, the joys of troubleshooting industrial controls (electrical substation, in this case) on a deadline. What the world needs is a single box that will bi-directionally convert serial protocols at any practical baud rate between RS-232, RS-485, multi-mode fiber, and tunneled Ethernet in any desired combination, while being small, lightweight, rugged, port-powered, and costing less than $500.

Every vendor on earth makes a device that does two or three of these but never in the exact combination you need.

My stomach is sensitive to quinoa in anything beyond small amounts. Five years ago I'd never even heard of the stuff. Now it seems to be in 90% of processed foods, and impossible to avoid.

I might be exaggerating a bit, but try to find any new variety of microwave dinner, granola bar, or many things in the chips isle.

I just looked at my granola bars. Quaker Oats brand. There's quinoa in them towards the end. Would never have known otherwise.

It's not like it's bad, just not desirable for people sensitive to it. I don't like it plain, I know that.

Costco sometimes has tubs of really good quinoa salad.

TBH it's not that weird or new, but I guess it was mostly limited to being used as a granola ingredient going back as far as I can remember. These days it's "trendy", like kale was a few years ago; so it is showing up in more places.

It's apparently related to amaranth and spinach. The seed coat contains compounds which can cause mild intestinal distress in some people, and there are selective breeding programs to reduce the amount of these compounds present.

Interestingly enough, while I don't have an issue with quinoa, eating more than a small handful of raw spinach is guaranteed to cause explosive digestive upset within a couple of hours. Cooked spinach seems to be fine though...
