In One.

Kevin Bacon went to my high school . Classmate of mine, an enterprising sort (she later became a published author), called the manager of the band he and his brother formed (creatively named "the Bacon Brothers") and asked, hey, when they are nearby, would they play at his alma mater?

This actually worked.

I wish I were that dumb. I searched for them. They were not "presented" to me. And Birds of Prey isn't available for streaming yet. So you can guess how I watched that.

Hey, no need to argue with us. Your disagreement is apparently with a well-established branch of mathematics!

I sat behind Ted Nugent's cousin in high school history class.

And my son (a toddler at the time) scared the band Molly Hatchet out of a Popeyes Chicken restaurant once. He had just started to pitch a tantrum; tour bus pulled up, they came in the door, looked at my screaming son, turned around and left.

I wasn't searching for Rosie Perez movies. I didn't even know her before the movie on Wednesday. The first one interested me coz of Nicolas Cage. Then on Thursday, I saw "Birds of Prey" as a new downloadable release on a site I frequent so I downloaded that simply out of curiosity (the trailer had failed to impress me). It's a wordpress based blog site so it doesn't do anything fancy like fishing for movie titles in a user's Google search history. The page is static and everyone sees the same titles available for download.

Seems like you might have taken my advice about your misbehaving xbox and applied it to movie selection.

Anyone know of a way to be password-less on a chromebook? My google fu says no, or at least not easily. Just curious if the gerbils know otherwise.

For anyone who has nerdy tenancies close to mine Neil Shubin(credited with discovery of Tiktaalik) just released a new book titled Some Assembly Required. I've read one of his other books titled Your Inner Fish which was pretty nifty. It turns out there's a number of things which we consider to be uniquely human, but in fact have roots going back to ancient species. I listened to a podcast he was on a few days ago where he talked about how our capacity for long term memory may in part have come from a virus. :o

Oh neat! My "Battlemouse Logitecha" must have gotten picked up in the Google News aggregator, because it just offered it back to me on my phone. That's two so far:

Google News is tailored to the sites you visit. Create a new profile with no history and see what shows up. My own pieces on HotHardware show up for me all the time, but I don't think they're legit showing up for everyone.

I routinely see banner ads for my employer and for suppliers I've dealt with (even from several jobs ago). Data is forever!

Obvs they won't show up for everyone, but the fact that the site is still getting scraped by Google means it hasn't completely crashed in the rankings, and may still get picked up for other people's "you may also like..." topical recommendations.

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt8244784/

From one of the user reviews on imdb:
Preventing the project from falling into B-movie muck is a standout performance from Betty Gilpin ("Glow") as Crystal. Most of the time she looks like she has "a pinch between her cheek and gum" (a tip of the Stetson to Walt Garrison), and she also hums to herself and tosses down some unusual facial expressions. This is a seriously oddball performance that is the film's highlight.

Betty Gilpin is damnnnnn awesome in this movie.

Everything I've read has indicated that it is a dumb/offensive premise for a badly done movie. Even trapped at home due to "shelter in place", I really don't feel a need to waste my time watching it.

It's far from the worst movie I've ever seen. But Betty's performance is the real reason to watch it. The movie was pretty generic trash until she came into the picture and then it was just fun, fun, fun.

Uh, this isn't about self control. I'm actually doing exactly what I want to do, which is not watch this garbage.

You do have strong self-control.

There is an awful lot of stuff we can say about this that we're all, you especially, are politely refraining from, despite repeated provocation.

"Far from the worst" and "generic trash until..." is a very low bar. You're still not convincing me it isn't a colossal waste of time.

I can.

You don't want to know.

EDIT: (by the way, this actually directly intertwines with what's ultimately going on in the other thread with whm1974. Also, in a very bad, no good, awful way...)

It is, in a way. That youtube video is only 5 min long. You could watch it if you had some time to kill. But telling yourself, "I will not watch garbage" without really knowing if it IS garbage takes self-control. In a typical person, the brain would be going like, "Hey. What if it isn't garbage? Maybe I'm missing something by not watching it. Oh what the heck. Let's waste just 5 min on what could be garbage".

Those qualities make a good practicing religious person who would have a very good chance of getting to heaven because those very qualities would prevent him from sinning.

Don't watch the movie. If you like action, just watch the youtube video. 5 min is not a colossal waste of time, unless that's how long it will take you to engineer a cure for the coronavirus :D
