Mine asked me for a new watch for Mother's Day. I told her there was no need, as there's a clock on the stove.

What did you get her instead?

I told you, I'm a monk.

What do monks do in the military? Or more precisely, why does the military need monks?

Never heard of the Knights Templar, I see.

Of course I have. Hard not to hear about them when there are games and movies about them. I meant, what does the modern military require monks for?

Speaking of Stephenson, the part in which he had that Gabriel Goto, a Jesuit-Samurai, giving extreme unction to his enemies before commencing battle... that's better than anything in Anathem. And I like Anathem.

Thanks. Didn't know that. Aren't you the one supposed to calm people down and give them solace through your words? Regarding girls, did you ever see one that made you regret your vow of celibacy? Who made you think, "She's my one and only"? Or do all of them appear no more than children to you?

With apologies to The Little Willies:

As long as he can chew it it's okay
He can eat an apple pie
And never even bat an eye
He likes anything from soup to hay

I bet he's gonna be a man someday

That last part remains to be seen.

While Vrock is trolling you, the role of the unit Chaplain was best seen by the role of John Francis Mulcahy.

Note to self: the overhead kettlebell press, and the aftermath of a pinched C8 nerve don't mix. Ow.

Which is weird because I can do pull ups without any problems. I've been doing more kettlebell stuff lately not so much because of the lockdown, but just because I wanted to try out some new stuff. I usually workout at home, so that part of it is really nothing new, but I guess that's one thing I won't be doing anymore.

Weird... never seen a machine run out of inodes before, but I guess a cache filled with 1.8 million little files will do that.

I've seen it. With enough systems deployed, you're bound to occasionally have customers who stress systems in weird ways!

FreeNAS is nifty. :P

After doing some upgrades here in the home office I ditched the Synology box, and set up a FreeNAS box using(mostly) spare parts. The board has only four SATA ports, and since I planned on using a spare i3 6100 I didn't want to mess with trying to find a new one. For storage there's 3x2TB WD Red's(pre SMR shenanigans) from the old Synology unit, and a 250GB SSD. It's compiling git in a jail now, but I keep forgetting that I do in fact have a terminal running in a browser window. :)

Inevitable - the grown up part, or the working well?
