I started building another drone  . I need counseling or something to limit my hobby expenses. Maybe I should pick up a wife next time I'm at the store, they seem pretty good at that.

This one is a big los acrobatic so no camera, but I'm planning to put about 70 watts worth of LEDs for night acro.

That's partly because Wife represents an alternate channeling of resources, not because you get a net savings ;-)

And then wait until you see what Baby does. Somebody around here once described kids as a full-time hobby that you can't quit for 18 years. Which is about right.

There was an interesting youtube video I saw last week that talked about barleycorn and other obscure, outdated units of measure that are still in use today.
EDIT: found it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IcLZqpB_QPg

I've been back and forth a million times in getting a gaming laptop or not. I hate the idea of giving up ease of repair and upgrade ability.

I was taking to a friend about how I could mount a monitor closer in the truck to ease my eyes, and convert to mini itx to make it more portable and I realized that's all to much more trouble than it's worth

This is in my cart but I'm still looking. My budget is about 2500 but this laptops SSD space is a little tight so I'll planning to get a 1tb Evo m.2 with it.

Because you live on the road, you may be one of the few people for whom a laptop makes sense as your primary gaming system. Of course, you could get even more compact than mini-ITX without necessarily getting a laptop:

Well the second part of the trouble is that I'm using the company supplied, wall mounted, tv as a monitor. It's about seven feet away in normal use.

When I take eye exams I can read the smallest lines, but some games have small text that makes my eyes feel uncomfortable to say the least. Not to mention it's a 768 tv, I think there are some quality gains to be had too.

So if I was going to stick with a desktop id want to find a way to get a monitor and keep it closer to me. Way to much trouble and I have enough tech clutter as it is.

At this point I'm committed to just getting a laptop (again)
My budget is actually higher than 2500 if it seems worth it. I wouldn't mind getting more hd space later or paying extra for a must have feature although I think a 1060 and ips panel do it for me. I play most things that come out but don't have hangups about what quality I play on.

Either way I'm going to pull the trigger on Tuesday that way I can get everything switched over on my vacation.

How about the baker's dozen of 1080p gaming laptops at Newegg?

Unfortunately, Newegg has updated their catalog to remove the search option for IPS or VA LCD panels in a laptop.

Been looking at photos of the Boston area during yesterday's storm. A few photos in there of cars that people were attempting to drive through flooded streets and had to abandon.

How stubborn or stupid do you need to be to think that your Dodge Challenger can handle 3 ft of water? There should be a simple process running through your head: does your car look like this?

That got me wondering how much water i can clear. My intakes are part of the grill and floating isn't a concern. I bet i could clear 3 feet and come out the other side with a half cleaned engine. :D

Looking at those newegg options i might go with one of those. I'm running into a problem where i'm unsure of how to pay for things that are over my daily debit card limit. Maybe if i put a few hundred dollars on a gift card first.

2.5 tons is enough for me...I wonder what it'd take to make a pop up camper float? Think of the islands you could go camping on ;)

I rode in one of those in Branson, Missouri, back in the eighties. Drove down the hill from the town and right into the lake. The captain even let me steer. A LOT of fun.

I had the pleasure of working with Vint Cerf, this morning. Of all the celebrities, dignitaries, and generally famous people I get to meet in my job, there are usually, very few that can make me feel as uneducated as I felt this morning. He's a very nice guy, though, and a joy to watch engage a large crowd.

The Duckboat tours in Boston are pretty cool. I went on one after living there for four years even, and it was still cool.

Paul Allen (and crew) has found the wreck of CV-2 USS Lexington, lost at the Battle of the Coral Sea one month before Midway. From the condition seen in the pictures it's pretty obvious that the dissolved O2 content of that water is near zero.

Took a flyer on a CM MasterKeys S tenkey-less keyboard for my study desk (as opposed to the one I work at all day down the hall...working from home can be a pain in that regard). I got the one with MX Red switches since Amazon was out of both Brown and Blue, figuring I could send it back if I didn't like it.

I'm glad I did. The Reds feel nice. I think I might like the non-tactile feel better than the browns in my work office.
