Gene Wilder RIP

Mon Aug 29, 2016 2:46 pm

Every movie I ever saw with Gene Wilder in it was a good one. RIP to a classic.

Even "Silver Streak"??

Time to cue up some Mel Brooks classics.
What we have today is way too much pluribus and not enough unum.

So many of the movies he made were either made before I was born (like Silver Streak), or wildly inappropriate for my age when they came out. As a result, I probably only saw his very best. All those classic Mel Brooks (well, Blazing Saddles and Young Frankenstein, anyway) flicks, Stir Crazy, Willy Wonka, and so on.

Yeah, I'm gutted. I've been dreading this day for a long time. I grew up watching all of his movies and idolized him for as long as I can remember. His style of humor was intelligent and sublime, and is something we could use more of. He always came across as the most gentle, caring, and sincere man. If you can find it, the episode he did of Inside the Actors Studio was fantastic.
Heavy is good, heavy is reliable. If it doesn't work, you can always hit them with it.

Speaking of which, this hand-written letter regarding the Willy Wonka costume showed both his brilliance and his class at the same time.

I know this is a sad day because of his passing, but the bright side of this story is that he now gets to be with Gilda Radner again.
