Ok who fired up their grill and washed thier (sic) car in Florida - 2016 edition

Wed Oct 05, 2016 6:04 pm

We're battening down the hatches. This is the biggest storm since 2004 and there are a lot of new transplants that are either freaking out or completely complacent.

Reference from 2004:

Current path: http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/refresh/graphic ... l#contents

The storm is the size of Texas :o

I sure do. I'll see what I can dig up tonight. Not the highest priority but I should have time.

I'm still fighting with my stubborn-ass family in Charleston. They're ignoring the evacuation order and *maybe* leaving tomorrow.

UGH.

The SC governor recommended evacuating 100mi from the coast, if I remember correctly. Hope they hunker down at least.

I'll probably be given some of the after effect deliveries although from what I heard I'll most likely go to the areas north of Florida that are affected.

The sun disappeared about 2 hours ago and I don't expect to see it again until Saturday. 18 hours of rain then 25 hours of hurricane winds. Oh my

Everyone be safe! We were already making plans to GTFO of dodge (SE Virginia) but then the predicted tracks changed drastically over the last 2 days. Not good for the Floridians and South Carolinians though.
A most unfortunate, Freudian, double entendre is that hotel named "Budget Inn."

I'm doing the same. My parents are being stubborn. They're a little more inland, but also farther south than Charleston. If you're familiar with the area they live about 20 minutes or so WNW of Beaufort. They're a couple miles west of I-95 in that area.

My sister lives in the Savannah, GA area and they're not evacuating either.

The assistant manager at the store where my wife works was supposed to head down to Orlando this weekend for a vacation. Looks like that's not happening now.

I imagine this means she won't need to cover for him next week like she was going to. She didn't really want the extra hours, so it's a plus for her. Sucks to be the assistant manager though...

Finished getting all the exposed windows boarded up. Hopefully that is overkill, but you never know. Flying lawn decorations and plate glass windows don't mix.

Judging by the water level in the pool, we're at about 3 inches of rain so far. Only a few minutes of heavy wind, the rest has been just light to mid rain
I did apparently cut my forehead open either the boards. Oops. Hopefully that is checking the box for injuries this weekend.

The NWS really thinks Matthew will do a 180 to the right starting somewhere around Charleston, SC. That'd be a really odd track.
What we have today is way too much pluribus and not enough unum.

We lost power about 6am today. I don't see any major damage around. The wind storm is really cool to watch. Quite a blustery day.

I've never been to Florida, but my heart goes out to everyone there and all the forum members who have family and friends in the state. Two friends of mine live in Tampa, and I know that's on the westward side, but how likely are they to get negative fallout from this storm?

I was supposed to be attending a wedding in Fort Lauderdale this weekend. It's been pushed to January.

Stay safe, gerbils.

Probably just rain not much else. A lot of people were evacuating from the east coast of the state toward the Tampa area.

Unless it does a weird cut and turns towards them, probably nothing but some rain. Maybe some light wind gusts.

They're still expecting it to cut a 180 around Charleston and head back towards the Bahamas. I've never seen one do that before. However, if you lookup historical paths from past hurricanes they do have a tendency to do some weird things sometimes.

Oh I know they do some weird crap sometimes, I just said I've never seen it. I grew up on the east coast, and still have a lot of family there.

Also...look at this link. I geeked out on it for a while:

https://coast.noaa.gov/hurricanes/

I can also see why they're projecting Matthew to turn back towards the east. There's another tropical storm building due east of Florida, and it'll likely pull Matthew that way. They aren't currently projecting that it'll reach hurricane status, and Matthew will probably keep it pushed away from the coast.

Looks like it is basically over here. No major damage, not even many trees down. Just 1 in our neighborhood, but that one fell lightly on a house.
We still don't have power, so drove over to my parents house for dinner.
I guess we were over-prepared, but had it ventured 10 miles further west, the storm would have done a lot more damage.
