Fantastic!

Alex (bubble guy) continues to be employed by a nice local party store and has offered to attempt procurement of any specific brewed beverage that folks request. So, if you guys have any special orders, let me know.

I wanted to throw out an offer to BBQ regulars. I am literally only renting the cottage for two weeks this year just to have the weekend in between for the BBQ. We won't be staying out there during those two weeks and we won't have any family there either. So, if anyone wants to make more than just a weekend out of their BBQ trip, let me know. I'd rather have friendly gerbils staying there the week before or after the BBQ than have it be empty. Just keep in mind that the cottage will be host to the normal collection of folks that stay on the Friday and Saturday night of the BBQ.

So, what CPUs are you looking for this year? I'm trying to decide whether or not to stick this Q6600 in something...

A Pentium D 945 almost made it into something, before I found an alternate choice too, so that's still hanging around.

Yes, our fireworks display should be much more coordinated this year. Planning several prebuilt-fused launchers with a 50 shot 2" mortar finale! 8)

Right now I have two Dell Optiplex 3010 Ivy Bridge i3 desktops, a Gateway i3 Ivy minitower, an HP AMD A-10 minitower, and some black-box minitower that I could build up with an i3, i5, or i7 Sandy. And I have a ThinkPad x220 Tablet convertible with 8GB of RAM, a 120GB Intel SSD, and the 12.5" IPS LCD. I probably have a couple of LCDs in the 20-24" range that will be coming along. I have the ThinkPad listed on Craigslist, but if it doesn't sell, it will be there.

I also have an Intel NUC D54250WYK mobile Haswell i5 with 8GB of RAM and mSATA 256GB SSD with an Intel AC-7260 wireless card, but I don't really know if I want to sell that, it's kind of a fun box. Still thinking that one over.

I just might join the junkyard this year and this is what I KNOW I can bring:

Abit IP35 Pro with a seated C2D E6600 that happily ran at 3.2 for many a year (it's been in its original static bag since decom). Board also comes with 8 GiB of ADATA DDR2-800 (4x2 Gib). Slap a HSF on it and you've got a file server/router/whatever. The BIOS-level fan controls haven't been surpassed yet and this thing came out in 2007. It will likely need a new CMOS battery and a CMOS reset (I don't think I did that before decom).
Logitech Momo Force racing wheel
Microsoft Sidewinder Force Feedback 2 joystick
Random Lenovo laptops if I get off my butt and blank the drives, plus find their damn power cords. They're all of an age where they're disposable hotel web-surfing machines, suitable for Xfce at best.

If I really dig I might find some other treasures, and I am being "encouraged" to dig by SWMBO.

I am confirmed. I just planned the route out and everything. I'm taking US 61 and 14 then going interstate the rest of the way. A friend from WI and says its a great ride. 10+ hours will be a good test for the new back rest I ordered for the trip :) If it's alright with you all I will be there Friday night.

I may be interested in a NUC or similar if gerbils are selling any. It's about all I will have room for.

Due to limited space who should I contact to donate funds? Shoes, zgirl, Fish or all of the above?

I think the way back I may just do interstates until I hit La Cross. At that point I will see how I feel. Most likely I will take 52. It I'm feeling good at that point and it's not late will have fun on 61. Going over to 35 isn't much faster and it's far more boring.

Why do you ask?

Darn, i should have gotten that. Some music is timeless.

I was actually thinking about paying a separate forum for suggestions on songs to listen to on my ride. I just found the first bit of inspiration.

Starfalcon, assuming it still works, do you want my old A7217A (HP branded FW900)? You may already have one, but if you want this one it's yours for price of transporting it away.

Lol. I'll plug it in to make sure it still powers up. Last time I used it, it took a good 10mins to "warm up" so that the picture looked good. That was years ago though.

Hi All,

I'm a looong time reader Tech Report, have greatly appreciated the sight, read it pretty much on a daily basis, have learned a lot from the various articles, and have used it as a reference for many topics to help in personal and professional pursuits, but I have been very light in contributing to the forums or being active in the community. Some years ago I registered with a different username (finrock) but I've forgotten the password and the password recovery system doesn't seem to recognize my email address username combo so I've now registered with a new name. In any case, I figured it was time to make a small introduction and to let those who care know that it is my intent to attend the BBQ this year.

I've always wanted to attend one of these Tech Report BBQ in the past but something always got in the way. Being that I'm a resident of Michigan and don't live too far from Holland, it seemed ridiculous that I couldn't make it out to at least one BBQ. So, I've decided that this year is the year especially when I read that these things could be winding down in the future! Not sure if an RSVP is required or not, however, expect me, my wife, my three girls, and my son to attend this year (if that is okay, that is?), sans my two oldest who will be visiting friends out of state for the summer when the Tech Report BBQ will be going down. For those who might be counting, yes, I have 6 kids in total. 3 Boys and 3 Girls. The age of my kids who will be attending are 14, 10, 8, and almost 2. Again, if there is an age limit of any kind, which I didn't see yet, please let me know.

I'm happy to bring along some stuff to contribute to the BBQ. I'm assuming that the list provided in this thread is up to date and if there are no names next to it that means that those are items that still need contributions?

We are all looking forward to visiting Holland, MI and in particular to attending the BBQ, meeting new people, and on my part, getting more involved in the Tech Report community. Socializing isn't one of my strong points, mind you, but neither am I anti-social. =-).

I'll continue to review the posts related to the BBQ to make sure I have all the info I need to attend and I'll post any questions if I have any.

Thanks for reading my post!

Welcome to the thread! Way to up our attendance numbers. :o There's no age limit or anything, the BBQ is very family friendly. The list in the first post is up to date - but it really doesn't fill in until the last week or so before the event. Even then, it's hardly definitive, it's just a general guideline if you need some guidance. Looking forward to meeting you and yours.

Can someone provide some more details as to what the "Junkyard" is?

I'm gathering that people bring their old hardware, etc. to either be traded, given away, and/or sold? Is that correct?

Do you have to officially join this "event" or do you just bring stuff and that qualifies you? lol

Swap meet, flea market, tag sale, whatever it's called in your area. Bring it and it will get looked over by many.

Gotcha. Cool, I definitely have a lot of computer/tech stuff my wife considers "junk" that I can bring, especially since I'll have extra room in my vehicle without my two older boys with me. I'll start looking in to what I can bring.

Thanks!

Played this tonight and a friend's birthday party. It was pretty awesome. Expect it to be at the BBQ. :D

Talk about an idea you wish you had come up with, it's like $1.50 of 40mil HDPE and a Frisbee. Sold for $40 - impressive.
