Low information density is where it's at these days.
Nostalgia isn't what it used to be.

More than that. It's practically no text, just photos. And a flat uninspired look.

Now that you mention it, my phone recently started giving me news alerts consisting of nothing more than a thumbnail image (no text). WTF? I guess this is another idiotic UI trend that needs to DIAF.
Nostalgia isn't what it used to be.

And now they're rolling out changes to the photo viewer actors/shows/movies/etc. It sucks. The gallery view used to let you scroll through pictures and you could click back once in the browser to go back where you were (i.e. the actor/show/movie page). Now it goes back through each picture you scrolled through. Every. Single. One.

Thought of this thread when on IMDB the other day.

I'm guessing high traffic websites have the same issue as retail stores -- it doesn't matter if it's not better, change has to happen, otherwise the masses will view it as 'has been'.

I know someone in the private <= high school textbook realm, and if they don't produce a new math textbook every 3 years, they lose customers. That makes no sense to me, but apparently that's what the institutions want despite having to pay for said constant recreation.

Without the trendy requirement, I suspect more websites would be like Distrowatch, a site which I find gloriously fit for use.

I think the idea with Imdb's homepage is "mobile"? Not that I get why mobile has to be like that.

BTW, (mentioned earlier, but I discovered it again), this is an interesting successor to Imdb's per-movie/person forums:
https://moviechat.org/

Though too bad it also copied the forum design. Imdb's forums were useful despite their design, not because of it.
