Just lost my cat Zoe

Fri Feb 10, 2017 5:33 pm

Today I had to put my cat Zoe to sleep, and it's hard to loose a pet after having her for so many years. She was 17.5 years old and her kidneys went out, and I really didn't notice anything was wrong with her until it was too late. She really didn't seem sick until a couple days ago, and she went realy fast, went from normal jumping around to laying in a spot on the floor not eating and drinking. She has been a constant in my life usually laying next to me on my desk while I was on the internet or posting here, and I will miss her greatly.

My condolences. I've buried 3 cats and a dog, and it never gets any easier. I just wish that those older pets had been around in the days of digital photography.

My condolences. There is nothing like a cat that prefers your company. I lost my cat to an owl back in 2007 and the new cats a couple years later. My new cat is ~6 years old, strictly indoor cat, and next tuesday he has to go have his teeth removed.

When the inevitable comes 7-10 years out with my current dog [/hoping], I and my family will be inconsolable wrecks for a few days.

We love them when they're here, yet we know it is transitory. In many ways, losing a pet to old age is one of the best life lessons a child can ever learn.

Very sorry to hear of your loss. I lost a cat to the Chinese made pet food thing years ago and just haven't been able to bring myself to start again with another.

Bummer, man.  The only pet we had growing up was a cat that also lived to 18, then went into full kidney failure.

Hi Starfalcon,

I'm a bit late but my condolences also. I lost a great feline friend in 2010, but his brother is still here, having lived with me for about 13 years now. I don't know how old he is, but he's obviously a lot older than when he moved in with me in 2004, and knowing that makes me nervous. Pictures will help a lot after the pain subsides, and I KNOW that is just awful right now. We do everything we can for our little furry friends, and losing them is just plain rough.
Be careful on inserting this (or any G34 chip) into the socket. Once you pull that restraining lever, it is either a good install or a piece of silicon jewelry.

You have my condolences Starfalcon.

It's truly amazing the impact a little feline can have. I had a small jet-black cat for over 15 years, she passed away in 2012 but was an incredible friend to have grown up with

My condolences. I've buried three cats so far in my life, and I miss them all. My current one is 13 years old and in good health, but she's the first one I ever got myself, as an adult. I'll be a wreck when she goes.

I've buried no less than seven cats in my lifetime and it never got easier since the first one.  I currently have two that are about to turn 12 so I imagine they only have a few years left at most.

Much condolences.

Well I just got more bad news today, found out my other cat spunky has fatal stomach cancer. It really hurts loosing my second cat who is only 8 years old within 6 months of loosing my older cat. I hope I have a few weeks before I have to make the decision.

Lost several pets over the past 30+ years, a couple of them complete mysteries (i.e. up and vanished; cats). The repetition never makes it any easier. Losing the current dog, though, will wreck me for a good week or so, even though I know it's inevitable.

Remember the joy and affection from when they were there and be steadfast in the decision that "it's time" really means so. Putting down our 16YO black Lab was my daughter's first exposure to death (roughly 11YO at the time). She handled it well and understood why even through her copious tears. The vet really helped by telling us (mainly the daughter) that we had done everything that could be expected to keep her going and that it was "time". Yes. just like every vet office on the planet, there's a copy of "Rainbow Bridge" hanging by the reception window.

I've always had cats. I grew up with cats from infancy through university and beyond. I never had a dog until we bought the house. As long as I live in this house I will have cats (old house, stone foundation, dirt cellar, rodent Studio 54, do the math), but no matter where I live in the future I will never again not have a dog.
What we have today is way too much pluribus and not enough unum.
