I'd be interested to know what percentage of current Marvel sales that comics comprises. The movies do so much that it's impossible to think that's just a drip in the bucket.
I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do.

We probably should split the the thread if we are going to discuss comics.

Anyways, the comic medium is an odd one. Personally I do not buy actual comics anymore but do subscribe to Marvel Unlimited. I can read practically anything I want at a given time. I'm pretty sure that those numbers are just for actual sold comics. I'd be interested to know what they bring in for active Marvel Unlimited account or digital sales too.

My mind is officially blown! But before I go any further I need to say that if you not have sat down and watched The Clone Wars and Rebels you are seriously missing out on some of the best writing, VA, and lore that SW has to offer.

That being said, the penultimate episode of Rebels has literally blown my mind and has brought a concept that was rarely used in the EU into canon, and with that I bring you a spoiler:

Time travel, yes I know its a over used plot device but SW EU rarely used it and only used it for very specific reasons. In the way Rebels served it up we hear voices, past, present, AND future! We hear Yoda, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Qui-Gon Jinn, Kanan Jarrus, Anakin Skywalker. But then we hear Obi-Wan Kenobi talking to Luke Skywalker, and then Princess Leia—voices from the future. (future from the Rebels timeline)

Then Rey! Yes, Rey! And Kylo Ren. Characters who won’t exist in this universe for decades!

Anyways for the time travel part, Ezra watches Ahsoka fight Darth Vader from Rebels two seasons ago, reaches back in time, and saves her from the falling debris that killed her (Now we know what her fate was when she faced her old master she didn't live until now!)

Officially my mind is blown as this sets up all kinds possibilities. I did however think they might be retconing something and if they are I do not know what it is.

Apparently the Solo trailer aired during the super bowl, but not for the online stream so I missed it, at least until it aired before Black Panther (I'd definitely recommend) So for anyone else that didn't know: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K9PkToULL1c

I hear you tanker, but I'm never a fan of the plot device, unless it is pivotal to the entire show, like Sliders.

Not sure about this plot device. Set up for future film where Kylo Ren doesn't exist?

Rebels ended last night and it was everything I wanted and more. Oh how I want so much more. It was a masterpiece! The SW Universe should be Dave Filoni all the time. He gets it! His story telling is really top notch more than that trash that Rian Johnson tried to pass off.

And with that Spoilers:

Ahsoka LIVES! Not just back then but into the current movie timeline, after the Battle of Endor! So does Sabine! I want more of them two! And there's that little twist of Jacen.......Not Jacen Solo but Jacen Syndulla.....Could we now see the 'Jacen' story line from the EU at some point? It's possible.

Now to wait for the next SW animated series, which has been announced, but no clue as to what its going to be.

I thought much of the final episode was "fill". The never-ending multiplier of storm troopers on the platau battle was particularly bad (..and reminded me a lot of the battles in Dragon Age 2.)

Bridger's "offer" was - what? Interesting, but it needed some back-story from the Emporer's perspective. In other words, what does the Emporer gain from it? (I can infer all sorts of things, but as it was presented - it was a bit weak.)

Nor was there any reason given for Bridger's "final" decision (to stay with the ship) - it didn't make sense.

-loved the inclusion of the interstellar "beasts", but didn't see how they could "plow" a full battle cruiser and not take much (any?) damage OR how they seemed to take plasma blasts in "stride" (..even the little ones).

On the other hand:

I thought Caniens episode was fantastic (better than most of the movies).. and the Temple episode after that was interesting (if a little "choppy"). (..the excavation around the temple was also overdone (REALLY wide diameter) presumably to better enable the stealth sequence into the camp. As a result it looked really different from previous episodes that I found a bit jarring.)

Yep, we need a fun Star Wars movie after that last episode. I like how people are linking the easter eggs Ron Howard may be putting in the movie with references to his history with George Lucas in American Graffiti which also starred Harrison Ford. And how Solo's speeder in the chase scene looks like a Ford Falcon.

Just saw the latest official trailer for Solo and it does look like a fun one. Liking the sassy female-voiced droid. The buzz afterwards is who is Chewie's friend in the quick scene of him hugging the other wookie? Is it his wife Mallatobuck or his son Lumpawaroo? I don't remember seeing the dreaded 1978 SW Holiday Special where they introduce Chewie's family. Need to review that. Anyway, looking forward to Solo next month since the Last Jedi was disappointing to me.

Hell I agree with Luke that the Jedi, as they were, need to end. Given his character in the original trilogy, I actually think his retreating to hermithood made sense.

The one really bleh part for me was the casino planet. I kind of get what they were going for; funky plans of desperation don't always work out. But it just dragged

I agree... and honestly, I don't see why so many people (including the actor) saw it as being out of character. He watched his own student - his nephew, no less - murder a bunch of people and become a frikkin' monster. It makes sense that he'd want no further part of that...

That entire subplot could have been left out and and it'd have made no difference.

But by running away, he guaranteed that no one was preventing future monster's. That's pretty out of character for Ep6 Luke.

Luke as it stands would want the Jedi to end

Key words being as it stand.

And which film's fault is it? Return of the Jedi or The Last Jedi?

What happened to Yoda: Pass on what you have learned? Now all Yoda is is a glorified arsonist?

Well, I meant no difference to the main plot. They could have simply flown over to the enemy fleet and attempt the hack themselves; the guy they found really didn't add anything to the overall story either. His betrayal didn't add anything to the story, either.

One would have to ask Mark Hamill about it, but if he felt that Luke was "out of character", my guess is that he (Hamill) would have preferred a Luke who acted more like Yoda in his old age--the goofball Jedi Master. That's just my feeling looking at how Mark acts on Twitter (he has loads of fun), but he may still get that chance if he sticks around Star Wars.

That is a good point. I think Luke as his climax in 6 was a more confident bolder Jedi than Obi Wan & Yoda were. I don't think Windu would have gone into hiding.

I'm basing my statement about the Jedi needing to die on the portrayal of the council in the prequels than anything else; ineffectual, hypocritical, bloated. Yeah, it needed to go.

I think the prequels are still canon, but I could be wrong. But the Jedi Council from that was pretty crappy.

I think you'd enjoy watching the CinemaWins videos on I-VI.

Yeah, the prequels are canon, and I think that the failure of the Jedi Council is a core theme. They were completely blind to two key developments: the Sith in charge of the Senate and Anakin's strictly-forbidden marriage. Had they been willing to study and understand the Dark Side, they might have seen Sidious coming. Had they been willing to allow some attachment and support, Anakin may have avoided the desperation that turned him into Vader.

And I also think this is the point of Yoda in TLJ. Having seen the failure, he's willing to burn the past as let something new grow, giving Luke the push he needs to embrace it.

Obi Wan and Yoda didn't go to hide.
Obi Wan was watching over Luke from distance because Owen and Beru didn't want him around Luke.

Yoda went to Dagobah to preserve the jedi knowledge while telepathically keeping contact with the jedi who survived the order 66.
In this regard we actually don't know if Luke was the last jedi for sure: many were able to escape and hide in the coming years of the empire. After the Rian Johnson's masterpiece anyway, which retroactively alters the established canon in so different bad ways, everything is possible, sadly.

The movie is such a mess that trying to accurately and rationally explain every flaw, nonsense, error, bad writing, plot hole, poor writing choices, and contradiction would take too long. It is a poorly made movie firstly and A Star Wars one that has continuity flaws among the others.

Who is really interested in an in depth analysis can take a look at Mauler's "Critique of Star Wars: The Last Jedi" videos, he goes scene by scene and points out most of the flaws in that stinking pile...

The Obi Wan one is plausible, but where are you getting that for Yoda? All of the canon points to him being there out of self-imposed exile. When speaking to Obi Wan it is implied that the only other Jedi is Leia; and this is further implied by the exchange between Obi Wan and Luke:

BEN: Then the Emperor has already won. You were our only hope.
LUKE: Yoda spoke of another.
BEN: The other he spoke of is your twin sister.

In this regard we actually don't know if Luke was the last jedi for sure: many were able to escape and hide in the coming years of the empire. After the Rian Johnson's masterpiece anyway, which retroactively alters the established canon in so different bad ways, everything is possible, sadly.

We know that Luke is the only Jedi who's relevant. Even if other Jedi exist, they obviously aren't doing anything of consequence; and neither Yoda nor Obi Wan give any appearance of considering them to be of any use moving forward.

The movie is such a mess that trying to accurately and rationally explain every flaw, nonsense, error, bad writing, plot hole, poor writing choices, and contradiction would take too long. It is a poorly made movie firstly and A Star Wars one that has continuity flaws among the others.

Dude... the entire series is full of flaws, bad writing, and plot holes large enough to fly a Star Destroyer through. Including the original trilogy. You've gotta be willing to accept that if you're going to discuss them :b

The original was more like fly an A-wing through. The Prequals, maybe a millenium falcon. Ep 7 maybe a Star Destroyer. Ep 8 though? That would have fit the Death Star 2.0.

I hope this guy makes money off Youtube because...really? You created 5+ hours of content detailing why a movie is terrible?

I agree with him on every point that I saw but wow, that's dedication.

Officially my mind is blown as this sets up all kinds possibilities. I did however think they might be retconing something and if they are I do not know what it is.

It doesn't really sound like time TRAVEL. It seems to be more like seeing or hearing through time, not actually travelling to a different time period.
Not so shocking, though. Wasn't this already established in Empire Strikes Back? Did not Yoda say, "Through the force, things you will see other places...the future, the past, old friends long gone."
"It is the future you see."

Just a thought.
