CUI (Clicking Under the Influence)

Thu Jun 22, 2017 9:15 am

Ever wake up in the morning, realize you ordered something online the night before while you were drinking, and think to yourself "It seemed like a good idea at the time, but man I wouldn't have bought that if I was sober!" Amazon just makes it too damn easy to impulse buy stuff, and being under the influence of mind-altering substances doesn't help. At least I've never bought something expensive that I've had second thoughts about.

My latest one (from last night): an MP3 download of the Liz Phair album Exile In Guyville

Anyone else care to 'fess up?

More than a few random purchases while imbibing. I kinda have a mental limit of $80 or so for these types of purchases...if it's more than that it goes on a wish list or into the cart without buying.

My last similar purchase was an 8" Kindle for the wife. I kinda wish I'd bought one for myself, the new Kindles are awesome! :P

EDIT: I imagine the Steam sale this weekend will incur a few more purchases...

Yeah... I totally only impulse buy when I'm drinking... definitely not while sober. Nope. Not even once.

Slickdeals counts as a drug, right?

While I do drink every now and then, I don't usually consume booze at home so I never had the CUI problem.

If you have a smartphone you can still TUI (Tap Under the Influence)...

Edit: At the TRBBQ a few years ago (after a few rounds of beers) I think we nearly managed to convince Damage to impulse buy the domain name "hairyjugs.com".

Yeah, that Belgian you brought down to the beach wrecked more than one person. Not sure if Inkling's brother ever recovered.

It may have been just the lack of decent cell/WiFi coverage down on the beach that prevented that domain registration from happening.

For me it's always a game on steam. I have so many games in my list that I will never play and I have no idea why I got them. I guess it seemed like a good idea after a couple beers.

Couple of days ago I woke up in the morning to find I had an icon for Warhammer Dawn of War on my desktop. I don't like strategy games. I had been drinking a little Patr'on the night before.
I guess that qualifies, but the exact details are fuzzy......

The worst thing I did was a great thing. Found me a "broken" Adcom 7607 on sleezbay. Grounds for the safety circuit were jacked up. Best $25 ($50 shipping) I've spent.

When this happens to me it's usually music. I'd remember a concert I'd seen (or missed) years ago and think I wonder if there's a recording of that?

Worst time I ever did that was when I clicked the "register" link in this website.

Look at the effin' mess that turned out to be.

I don't need CUI, I can just CABD (Click after a bad day). Especially bad when I was younger... either that or slipping some bills under garters. I seem to have a little more money in the bank these days!

I picked up Shadow of Mordor for $4 earlier, but not while under the influence. That part comes later. :P

There are a lot worse things to wake up to than an unnecessary icon. Eeep! :o

But seriously, if you black out while drinking, wake up in a pool of your own vomit, discover a new tattoo, find a new wedding ring on your finger or a ring freshly pierced...well, anywhere, then maybe you should switch to Diet Mountain Dew. Who knows, you just may find that lost shaker of salt. :P

Yeah, but cutting up my feet on a pop-top leads me to the blender and what it can render rather than the salt.

So 12 feet deep? Or 30 feet deep? That adds a new level to the phrase "being thrown into the deep end". :P

LOL, sorry for the misunderstanding, it was 12 feet in diameter and 30 cms in height, good enough for 4 kids to play.
