Tue Jun 27, 2017 7:09 am

Anyone else not able to access Micro Center website since yesterday? Did they get hit by ransomware?

I get a "we're updating our site" page. Is that what you're seeing?

Same here.
What we have today is way too much pluribus and not enough unum.

Yes, been seeing that since i think yesterday morning or afternoon. Thanks. Wasnt sure if it was "internet routing" issue. /edit: forgot the air quotes.

If it was a routing issue you would get a timed out connection, not Microcenter's maintenance page. Clearly their servers (or at least the front end gateway to their server farm) are reachable. I suppose it could be a routing issue internal to their own datacenter... but that's probably not what you meant.

Sorta, was wondering if something was wrong with my DNS cache, Cloudflare, AWS... to keep seeing maybe old server instead of new ones after their maintenance finished.

I noticed it yesterday.

At first, I assumed it was related to the X299 launch, but given that it's coming up on 24 hours and there aren't *that* many SKUs (at least that Intel is releasing on time, ha), not sure what's going on.

That could happen if they changed the IP address of the site, but the stale DNS entry would've aged out of the cache by now.

Yeah, but you know, 99.9999 really means once in a while, something that "couldn't" happen, happens.

I was actually thinking this was an update to their backend so they could respond to future coin mining craze type events somehow. Its coming on summer vacation and how are the kids supposed to build or update gaming machines if a key component has been mass bought by profiteers...

I suppose they could actually be updating the site as the maintenance page says. However, you would think if they had a planned update which they knew would cause an extended period of downtime they'd have it staged in a separate environment such that they could just cutover from one to the other.

Yup, something's up. Massive systems failure (and poor disaster recovery planning), or they got hacked. If the latter, I hope credit card data from their B&M stores aren't kept on the same systems that serve their web portal, or I'm gonna have to cancel my MasterCard (again).

They just modified the landing page to add a list of B&M retail locations. That's not something you do if you expect to be back up soon.

Really looks like someone in their IT department has executed a "career limiting move".

Heh, the first person who replied on that Twitter thread had the same idea I did in my previous post. :D

No word on whether there was a security breach...
