Wow...It finally came.

Tue Jul 18, 2017 7:05 pm

My nVidia 970GTX settlement check.

I don't even own the card any more, but hey, I got thirty bucks, which the lawyers probably made crap tons of interest on before paying it out.
I was joking at the TR BBQ of how I'd never see those thirty bucks.

They refused my claim stating that I made a mistake. They didn't get it back to me before the deadline and now I can't get my $30....

I don't remember filling out my claim and thought I missed the deadline, but my check showed up yesterday.

Haha, how long has it been since we originally filled it out? Over a year? I just got mine in the mail yesterday, I never really expected it to come.

Mine was in today's mail. I'm surprised - I forgot about it.

Mine arrived in the mail yesterday, too. Pay attention because there's an expiration date on the check, too.

I'd be curious to know which group received more money overall:

1) The consumers who bothered filling out the claims forms
2) The lawyers.

My guess is that the payout to the first group was equalled or surpassed by the second group, despite the first group being tens of thousands or even hundreds of thousands of times larger.
Congratulations, you've noticed that this year's signature is based on outdated internet memes; CLICK HERE NOW to experience this unforgettable phenomenon. This sentence is just filler and as irrelevant as my signature.

I would bet money that #2 got the lion's share.

At least the consumers are getting cash in this case. When the Zip drive class action settled, I got a coupon for a free box of Zip media. Great, just what I need -- free media for the device I don't use anymore because it was unreliable (resulting in said class action suit). (I can guarantee you that the lawyers did not receive their compensation in the form of Zip media...)

All checks expire eventually. If an expiration timeframe is not explicitly stated on the check, 180 days is typical.

I am surprised this isn't common knowledge.

I knew about it but just barely, if I had born a couple years later I imagine I wouldn't have seen many checks.

According the accounting folks in my office it is 60 days. banks tend to honour them up to 120 days to the pain of the accounting department.

We do business in the US and I assume the statements on this were across the board.

I got my check a couple days ago too. In the end, this 970 only cost me ~$220, and I bought it back in 2015 when they were normally $300-$350. This settlement basically paid for the aftermarket cooler I bought several months ago. I'm running it with an Arctic Accellero S3 with a single 120mm fan (near silent with no change in noise at load), and I can say that its been a great card for the money. Thanks to the mining craze there's still nothing worth upgrading to under $300.
