Goodness, what a sad news day.....The Vegas concert tragedy and then reading that Tom Petty had passed.

I was fond of Tom since he started in my local home area in FL before making it big in CA. I wish I could have seen him perform again.
Recently he reunited with his old band members in "Mudcrutch" from Gainseville and did an album. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mudcrutch

Heart attack, apparently. Found unconscious, determined brain dead. They just pulled life support.

Another musical hero from my high school days gone.

Edit: Oops, someone beat me to it. I will merge the threads.

Darn it. One of my very favorite musicians. This is awfully sudden. I wonder if he had a history.

Gone, but not likely soon forgotten.

Many nice tributes to Tom this week. I especially like this one about his cameo on the Simpsons where he tried to teach a lyrics workshop to Homer and his friends at a summer camp.
The character designer for the episode wrote: "Here's a little laughter to ease the heartache"

His song crafting is timeless and transcends generations.

I didn't really know much of Tom's music except the hits that pretty much everyone has heard, Free Fallin', etc until my best friend, who was a huge Petty fan, introduced me to more of his library. I really grew to appreciate his music and the person he was. Went to 4 or 5 of his concerts, mostly at The Gorge. Man those were fun, lots of herb being passed around.

We had to miss the last time he was in Seattle because it was the eclipse weekend and we were camping. Had no idea that was our last chance to see him.

"Refugee" was one of my favourite songs when I was a kid.

A lot of attention gets given to the classic Tom Petty stuff but there is some (relatively) newer stuff that's awesome too:

One of my favorite songs of all freakin' time.
