Herkimer out of Seattle is the best coffee I've had. You can order it online. It's expensive but not terribly.

If you want some seriously bad ass cocoa powder, then look no further.

nuts.com does have several types of cocoa power available including Dutch.

You guys DO UNDERSTAND that you don't have to brew a WHOLE POT every single time you use a drip coffee machine, right? I have seen a few comments saying something about "a 10 cup pot" or "a 12 cup pot" or "a whole pot" and honestly I couldn't tell if you people don't understand that you don't have to brew a whole pot every single time you use the machine.

Yeah. There was literally no discussion of biologically plausible mechanism of how artificial sweeteners could conceivably cause depression. And the authors themselves state that it could just as easily have been that people who were prone to depression were more likely to seek out sweeteners in the first place (ie, reverse causation). So not exactly compelling evidence that sweeteners cause depression. And the risk estimate wasn't that high to begin with. Interesting finding in the data, but not exactly conclusively causal.

And I wouldn't exactly call PLOS ONE a "high-tier" journal. But it's certainly not low-tier either. More middle of the road. It is open access, which means people generally need to pay to get their articles published (and high-tier journals generally are not open access). Further, it has an impact factor of less than 3. Not horrible. But not exactly high tier.

True. But often, if you brew bellow a certain amount in a drip machine, the results won't be as good. Generally because the water isn't "exposed" to the grounds long enough due to the shape of the filter basket.

Well I went over to Walgreen and brought a 12 oz bag of Gevalia Kaffe medium roast House Blend. And the Taste difference between Robusta and Arabica beans are like night and day. I only had to put two packets of Stevia in instead of three or four.

That, and many commercial machines (e.g. the ones at our office) have a permanent water connection and an automated cycle. You make a full pot or you don't make one at all.

Even without an AeroPress (which is what I use multiple times a day), even a cheap coffee maker should have a "1 Cup" button. I have a cheap Krups for making coffee in volume when we have people over, and even that has a dedicated "1-3" button for when you're just making enough coffee for yourself.

Also, if you are using a drip coffee maker, proof your grounds - with the coffee in the filter, but before you close the door, slowly pour about 30 ml (1 oz.) of cold water over the grounds and let them sit for a few minutes. Then close the door and start the brewing. The grounds will have have dampened slightly, and the hot water coming in from the top as the coffee machine runs won't drill straight down. You get better, more strongly flavored drip coffee.

I have a Bunn pour over coffee maker. The caffine is the same but the flavor is always weaker than that from a drip coffee maker. I've tried putting just a little water through and then waiting and then the rest. I'll give this a try.

As for coffee brand, I generally buy whole bean Boyer's French Roast. But I try other dark roasts on occasion.

Civet /= cat.

There is also "Black Ivory coffee". The coffee is fed to elephants and recovered from the dung for roasting.

Its expensive because the link says they only recover enough beans for a kilogram after feeding 33 kilograms to the elephant. Those have got to be some very buzzed elephants. :D

I'm told the civet is a finicky critter that only eats the best coffee cherries on the bush. Then the acids and enzymes in their G.I. tract, having stripped away the cherry flesh for digestion, have a pleasant effect on the seed's character.

I've never tried it myself. But I have tried many varieties of something that a yeast culture ate and peed out, generally with pleasant results.
