And no, it probably isn't aliens. My guess is something about finding water erosion that confirms Mars once had flowing rivers (which isn't shocking but is nice to prove).

Yup, but it means there's a chance that there might have been organic molecules on the surface when Mars was warmer and wetter, to provide ingredients for life. Although I'm betting it's more likely that there's life under the surface of Europa or Enceladus than there is on Mars.

(On a side note, I'm continually impressed by how much mileage (figuratively and literally) the NASA teams get out of their missions.)

Makes you wonder about the origins of Elon Musk. Maybe he hasn't been trying to go to Mars. Maybe he's trying to get back to Mars!

As much as I enjoy the subject, I'm getting a little tired of these "major announcements" and the surrounding buildup, only for it to be that they've found evidence of erosion or a couple of molecules that could - at least in theory - be related to some organic process.

Just release the information as it comes. Any "major announcement" that doesn't involve an actual organism at this point is just a waste of hype.
