Now I'm just hoping Mr.Steven made the catch...

Edit:

Falcon fairing halves missed the net, but touched down softly in the water. Mr Steven is picking them up. Plan is to dry them out & launch again. Nothing wrong with a little swim.

Bummer.

That was totally worth watching. The webbed reentry fins were interesting. There must be an interesting development story to go along with those.

Next launch is tomorrow. It was to have been today but there was moldy cheese that had to be dealt with.

Clearly not a launch by ArianeSpace.

Agreed, that reentry burn and landing burn were beautiful. The reentry burn totally brought home how fast that thing is falling from the sky with the flame blasting back up around the rocket.

For more details about the grid fins see Wikipedia. They used to be aluminium with ablative paint but that kept burning up too much - they still landed fine but with chunks missing. Now they've switched to titanium and those hold up to the insanity that is hypersonic reentry a lot better.

Yeah, came here to say the same thing. I tuned in just a few minutes late to see it live, and I didn't have audio on, so I had no idea about the water landing until I saw the comments over on Ars. Bummer, but at least they will learn from this.
