Needed a couple scoops of sand for a project so Wren and I hit up the lake this morning. We have beach! Here's a quick video too.

I picked up a new toy, that you'll read more about later, but I've used it for almost a week to record a time-lapse of the ice melting out at the cottage. It's pretty darn cool if I do say so myself. It might even be better if you watch it at 2x speed on YouTube.

Watching this it's no wonder the sand can change so much. I'd love to get a season's long video of that, but I need to use my new toy for other things...

Thanks! I made a playlist, added the last parts to it yesterday. I think parts 3 and 4 are the best, but it's all pretty neat.

So this afternoon when I picked up daughter #2 from school, she said "who's the guy at the place in Michigan that shoots potatoes into the lake?" I said, "his name is Ned, why?" She replied "I was telling my friends about him and his cannon and now he's their new hero." So there ya go Ned.

The grill trailer is booked, that's as official as the start of TR BBQ season gets. I can't believe the 3-month warning is already coming up next week. :o

You know there's no way I'm going to miss it.

I will probably blow out a lot of spare gear (systems and such) to get it out of the house and increase storage space. Lots of Dell Optiplexes, some AMD A-series units, most quad core. Like Dposcorp, I'm a big fan of trading too if I find useful or fun gear to play with. I think I have a Moto G5+ unlocked all-US-carriers cell (4GB/64GB) running Oreo 8.1 in mint condition with accessories and some other fiddly bits too.

You got it! Two-month warning post coming this week, and then I'll start to get the thread into shape. :)

FYI, it is not looking good for the beach/fireworks again this year. Lake is high and sand it gone.

Bummer. But not surprising, given the crazy amount of rain we've had this spring. I've seen articles claiming that the Midwest has experienced the worst flooding since 1929, so effectively a 100-year event.

This is nuts. Check out the livestream from the state park. Water levels are no joke, it barely even takes any wave at all to get over the pier right now.

My sis took this pic at the cottage over the weekend:

Yeah, not much beach...

A pet, I assume? From what I'm reading, they can't survive Michigan winters outside.

I can't speak for these guys specifically, but most of my sister's collection was procured after dying of natural causes or "rescued" from a freezer where no one was doing anything with the hide/body anyway. There's quite a market out there for acquiring such beasties.

Yeah, I assume they're not hunted or grown specifically for this.
Still makes me uncomfortable.
