Where is our editor?

Wed May 01, 2019 4:42 pm

So,

The last article with Seth Colaner's byline was on the 13th of March, as far as I can tell.

This seems strange. Is he OK? Is he still working for TR?

Important shout out to everyone who is working hard to produce news posts and feature articles. I know you don't all get paid and I can only imagine how much work it is. Same goes to the long-suffering employees - especially Bruno. You legend.

Big love.

James

Nah, it's a fair question and I've been dying for a reason to share a teaser. Thanks for asking!

I too lament the lack of content on this site. I noticed when there was no 1660Ti review and instead were links to other review sites. Little content after december.

I'll put in a sizable subscription if I see signs of life.
I know that's not the hesitant mindset that we need, and I'd hate to see TR go under since I attribute nearly the entirety of my PC hardware knowledge to this site. Unfortunately I just can't justify dumping my cash on a sinking ship. Even being the #1 contributor only buys a short period of wages, and unfortunately TR isn't overflowing with visitors (I judge based on forum activity, for better or worse) let alone the percentage of visitors that would be contributors. So while the "regulars" may have good intentions, there needs to be something to draw readership to get back up to a sustainable level. As it's been said, subscriptions are a supplement. Also, if you're too small to get free hardware for review and have to buy it yourself, that's just going backward faster.
I really do think that the YouTube model is the way forward. People want to be entertained while they learn.

This site is pretty good even as just a forum, but it’s good to hear there’s at least some content coming. Even without content I still reflexively visit because it’s such a habit and so comfortable to be here. Twenty years of doing something every day will make it a habit!

Yes, it'll be a pro-consumer move.

Been coming here since high school. I always check here first for content on new hardware. I generally feel free to post questions about tech, even if they feel silly, since I know this group is generally so balanced. RnP and rage levels here are incredibly low. It really is a great community.

While it is sad to see the reduced content, I still love the people, shortbread, specials, and forum. I really appreciate you guys working so hard to try to keep this site afloat. I have been using this longer than I've been using Google (and I still come here though I dropped Google for DDG). It means a lot to have a reliable site and community.

That being said, I know some attempts were made to transition to YouTube, but they had a podcast format. Have you guys considered basically just having 5 minute benchmark breakdown videos? Gamers Nexus has a good formula with minimized clickbait...

I definitely appreciate the website/text format. The price performance charts are amazing. I love the environment, but I really do think that succinct video content is too important to overlook.

Anyway, regardless of how this goes, thank you guys so much. :)
