Amazon Ordering Processing

Hey, I was just wondering what others experiences have been lately with amazon? I'm in Canada and when I used to order something, free or paid shipping, if it was small items or small quatities it would usually ship in 1-2 days.

Lately (past 6-9 months) it's now normal for a order to sit a week before it gets shipped, sometimes even longer (from amazon - not a sub store). A few buddies here saying the same thing, even with prime one buddy said took them 8 business days to ship mobo, cpu and ram.

Just wondering if this is isolated to Ontario, or if it's more widespread?

I've noticed this too as well with items that are outside of Prime. Becomes really annoying at times!

I have noticed the same thing. Amazon just isn't as customer-focused as they once were.

My experience has been the opposite. Some orders arriving in only one day, even before they announced the 1 day Prime thing. Maybe depends on how well your local Amazon warehouse is run?

I did have a couple of orders get screwed up, but that was over a year ago.

I basically only buy Prime items and they’ve not really ever let me down.

I RARELY order anything from Amazon that isn't "fulfilled by Amazon" or marked explicitly with "prime." I don't really see a reason to. Even if it may be cheaper (marginally) from another seller but it takes two weeks to get to me? No thanks. I'll pay the six bucks more for prime to have it at my house in two days, max.

Having said that, nearly every thing I buy ships immediately (within 24 hours) and gets to me either on time or early based on their delivery date. I haven't had an Amazon order take longer than two days to get to me in a lonnnnnnnnng time.

Nothing out of the ordinary here. There's been only a few occasions I can think of over the past year or so where I'd have an order miss the estimated delivery date.

Three weeks ago on Amazon I bought an order of 6 items that qualified for free shipping. It took 4 days for two items to be sent out to shipping and then 8 days for the remaining items to ship but then they arrived the next day. It was weird as heck. All items were sold through Amazon and not a third party seller.

"free shipping" isn't always "prime." You have to pay close attention sometimes.

No issues here in Atlanta.

Same comments as others above - I'm always careful to order directly from Amazon or fulfilled by Amazon. Unless I explicitly choose the slower shipping to get a credit things ship very quickly and arrive as expected. (2 days for prime, sometimes next day)

Often I have the ability to get it same day. However when I use same day I find things can get a little iffy. The same day third party couriers are hit or miss in my experience. (where regular prime is UPS, FedEx or USPS)

If I ever order shipped and sold by a third party I am careful to pick one with a high rating (like 97% or better) with a lot of past feedback. (even if it costs a few bucks more)

It's not that the delivery services have gotten appreciably slower. It's that the "Fulfilled by Amazon" and "Sold by Amazon" things sometimes take days before they ever leave the warehouse, even for "2-day Prime" items.

Again, that's definitely not my experience. Though I'm definitely watchful on when they say it will be delivered. 99 percent of the time their delivery estimate is accurate for me.

All depends on location. I can tell you based on what I know from where I work, Amazon has built many very large warehouses in the Chicago area within the last 5 years. Don't know your exact location, but you probably have 2+ within 15 miles of you. I'd imagine they've been doing the same in other large metro areas.

The other factor is the large number of Prime subscribers which need to be prioritized. Service to non-Prime users likely suffers as a result.

I'm rapidly finding what I want on other online stores now.

I don't know what's happened to Amazon but they've turned into the worst parts of ebay, alibaba, and Steam, combined.

They have far too many listings for the identical thing from the same factory line with different prices/reviews/descriptions
They sell fake items
They sell items in contravention of local legislation
They are plagued with fake reviews
They miss next-day delivery deadlines, even as a prime member
They market Prime as "free shipping" when it most obviously is not.
They clutter your search results with sponsored listings that ignore your sort preference.

This applies not just to Amazon marketplace, but also to Prime, fulfilled by Amazon, and Amazon Recommends listings.

Edit:
Edit again:
This list keeps growing. Every time I think that's it I remember another reason why I'm looking elsewhere and using Amazon as a last resort now.

Per Google Maps, the nearest one is 5.8 miles from here.

I see I'm not the only one.

I have ordered from all kinds of different companies online, and currently Amazon is the worst for 'fulfilled' or 'sent' times, and I'm talking in stock by amazon, at amazon, etc. etc.

5 days later from order date and order not even processed or shipped. This specific one is not prime, but still, 1 small item, in stock and not shipped 5 days later.

Isn't a rush, but I've never seen that kind of delay from other etailers. Newegg sometimes ships it the same day as the placed order.

Yeap, I see all of that stuff. My biggest personal annoyance is the quality and sorting of their search results. If you're able to navigate all the crap, I still find it to be a safer bet than most other online retailers due to the ease of returns and getting your money back. For other people using Amazon, over and over I see them not understanding the distinction between items sold by a 3rd party, and items sold directly by Amazon. They just. Don't. Get it. Even after careful explanation, most still act bewildered, and continue to blame "Amazon" for whatever 3rd party problems they've had. Amazon only makes matters worse by frequently obfuscating the seller (even when you're looking for it). and is only shooting themselves in the foot and creating a poor brand-image by doing so.

One of my favorites was when I wrote a short (3 sentence) 1-star product review a couple months ago, and upon glancing at my user profile shortly afterward, saw "Review hidden by sensitivity filter". I have no idea what in my review is triggering this, as there's nothing even remotely questionable about my choice of language. So......on a marketplace with rampant fake reviews (easily numbering in the tens of millions), it's the legit reviews which get filtered. Nice.

I never mentioned prime shipping in my post so I just don't see where you came up with that. I know I chose free shipping that can take 7-14 days but what was weird is how late they were to send my items to shipping, and then how quickly some of them came once they were shipped. Generally when something says 7-14 days to ship they ship it nearly right away but it goes by ground and spends the rest of the time in transit. In my case they were slow to send anything out but once it was sent out it got here in record time.

That was precisely my point. A lot of times, those "free shipping" items aren't tied to Prime so they take forever to get out. Like I said, you just have to be careful and if something says 7-14 days, don't get upset when it takes that long (i'm not saying you are, just that it's possible and believe what they tell you with a grain of salt).

In my experience within Ontario, excluding Prime items (these get shipped pretty fast) I typically have to wait a calendar week (7-10 days) before receiving an item. This has been my experience for the past year to be honest - I try to pick Prime items because they get shipped in a hurry.

For me, Amazon started out fast in the beginning, gradually slowed down on all free-ship non-prime items, then picked up again after Amazon built two large distribution centers in the Denver metro.

The random and unclear mix of Amazon, fulfilled-by-Amazon, and fulfilled-by-third-party is pretty irritating though. Some stuff (used books and other media) often ships very quickly and accurately from third parties, while other types of items are hit-and-miss. Once you figure out where on the page to look for seller and shipping info it's not too bad to navigate. But they're sure not making it obvious and it chews up the brand value. When I want to spin the roulette wheel on brokered transactions, I don't want to go through Amazon when eBay is right there. And interestingly, as long as it's not software or a few other narrow categories targeted by scammers with hacked accounts, the service from eBay sellers is often better.

I can't be fair, because early this year, we got an Amazon Fulfillment Center in the county, and things got faster. We also got Prime, after holding out for awhile, it finally became worth it to us.

I got my motherboard in 24 hours. It was kind of surreal ordering it and having it on my doorstep the next day.

I didn't face any issue like this. Amazon is working as it used to and deliveries are as they used to be and on time. Not much issues with Amazon Prime too.

They're generally pretty accurate for me as well, but their in-house parcel service seems to have a major problem with losing packages. Since 2018 I've had 4 packages from separate orders just straight-up lost, gone, vanished into the ether. I'm not talking about taken off my porch or anything, but lost somewhere in transport between their facilities. They're always good about refunding or replacing, but 4 packages over ~15 months to a single customer is pretty bad. Who knows where the material is actually ending up. Collectively, they've gotta be losing enough packages to fill the warehouse from Raiders Of The Lost Ark every 4-6 months.

One of the (many) great things about the UK is that if you order a Prime item, the majority arrive the next day (even Saturday or Sunday) as long as you’ve ordered before about 4pm, and a decent minority of items will arrive the same day if you order before about 10am. Depends on where you live, but if you’re in a populated area (which most of this place is) the experience is great. :D

Having nearly 70 million people packed into an area the size of our state of Michigan will do that.

The "last mile" folks that Amazon uses for delivery instead of UPS/FedEx/DHL seem... uneven at best. I'm talking about "random dude in his unmarked personal vehicle with the backseat full of packages" that seem to be doing deliveries (often quite late into the night). We've had several packages dropped off at our building that are addressed to other buildings on our street. We always walk the packages down to their correct destination but I'm not sure everyone is so diligent/honest when Santa Bezos drops something unexpected on their porch (or tucks or tosses it into strange locations, as often happens with us).

I'll bet they have an AI algorithm that trades off how much they need to pay their own delivery people to attract drivers who actually have a clue, vs. how much it is costing them to replace/refund lost packages. The current "loss" rate is likely close to optimal from Amazon's perspective.

I'm sure that the varying experiences in this thread can be limited into Prime and non-Prime categories. It sucks you have to pay a yearly subscription to get decent service, but I guess I'll do it as long as the other perks are worthwhile.
