Subscription drops from Gold to Silver?

Fri Jun 07, 2019 2:12 pm

My subscription while still in effect just dropped from gold to silver. I assume this is this because the subscription average has increased?

Not quite sure how they currently have it set up, but the Gold/Silver line is 43 bucks right now.

"Contribute $43 to get a Gold subscription."

A dynamic downgrade from gold to silver seems like an oversight; the fairer policy would be to lock you into a tier at the time of purchase.

Yes, and subscription FAQ #5 confirms that. "Your subscription status is determined at the time you pay, and it won't change after that, regardless of how the average changes."

My guess is that Mr Bill paid, for example, $20 in June 2018 and $20 in July 2018, and the total in the last 12 months was $40 - until recently. Now it's $20. Could that be the reason?

Apparently my sub runs out June 05; but autorenewed for $34 which is silver. I just added another $50. So, back to gold.

That's not the way it's working for me. I gave some money in October 2018, making me a Silver subscriber, and then more in February 2019, making me a Gold subscriber, and it says my Gold subscription is valid until October 2019, i.e. one year from the first payment.

Issue officially kicked upstairs.

No, its all good. I should have read the FAQ more closely. I was confused because the message said my card was "expired" for auto-renewal and yet I had a subscription. :-? As it turns out it was referring to next year, not this year for which it did auto-renew to the tune of $34 (last years amount). But I was confused by misunderstanding the "expired" notification. That is entirely my misreading, I think.

It just turns out, that this year, that amount was below the average; making it silver level. I added $50 and got it up into gold subscription territory. :D

So if I understand correctly, your past Gold subscription ran out, and you already have an upcoming subscription at Silver level which kicked in? If that's correct, then, well, all is correct.

I guess your software is set to autorenew at the same level as the previous year. I did a few years at $50 and then dropped down to the minimum to make it gold a couple years ago. That amount was not enough to make it gold this year.

Well, you can set up an autorenewal at any amount. If I had to guess, the amount you had was only enough to reach Silver this year.

Yes, I think that is it. I was just confused that the message said my card was expired but I had last years amount plus $1 giving me a silver sub. Poor reading comprehension on my part, probably. But I will take it off autorenew this time so I can choose the amount next year.

FYI, you can set up autorenewal with a custom amount. Oh, and thanks for being a subscriber :)
