I also just recently built the Lego Apollo Saturn V, and Lego Apollo 11 Lunar Lander. My first lego builds in over 20 years; now I just have to finish up my plan to display them.

The Saturn V is a sweet kit. I've been slacking on proper display, so feel free to share what you end up doing...

Just got a new 8" Newtonian/Dobsonian mount telescope. The moon looks absolutely amazing. I just need to get a proper lunar filter/eyepiece.

Despite the near-tranquil facade, people were up there on the surface not that too long ago.

I am taking my daughter (7) to see the Apollo 11 projection on the Washington Monument on Friday night.

Also you are able to visit the original Houston Mission Control Room.

They have one at KSC here and also one in Huntsville. All 3 also have shuttles of various levels of real vs mockups.

In a related note, don't forget about the Saturn 1b on i65 at the Alabama welcome rest area.

Yes, forgot about that. Been a long time since I was down that way in FL. I've been fortunate to visit both KSC and JSC. Grew up in north FL watching the shuttle lift-offs which at the time my school would pause and let all the students go outside to view if launches happened during a school day. Night launches were incredible and lit up the whole sky and I was 150 miles north of Cape Canaveral. Toward the end of the shuttle program I went down to see a launch closer from across the bay but unfortunately it had to be scrubbed for another time due to a thunderstorm and lightning too close in the area.

On topic, NPR was doing a comparison of costs. The Vietnam war was on and in every year cost more than the Apollo space program.

In 1973, NASA submitted congressional testimony reporting the total cost of Project Apollo as $25.4 billion source: Budget of NASA Cost of Apollo Program.

Also, Americans spent more on cigarettes during each year of the program.
