So the Alexa rank has fallen from around 51,000 to around 90,000 since the click. I guess SEO is not all that.

Gotta figure some of the old ranking was the old guard hanging on for a miracle. When they got punked instead, they started dropping the site from their daily browsing and feeds. Can't SEO without content to back it up.

Well with google changing up things, I am sure the current SEO isnt going to work anymore. I expect that number to plummet more. Yeah and this is my first time in over a week checking in when I used to check multiple times a day. Just not much here anymore, and with current management slowly letting the site die off, not much hope left.

Am checking in (what feels like) once a month or so, used to be multiple times every day.

They screwed the pooch, and it sucks like it was my pooch.

I'm even occasionally back on the Ars forum, which this place was way better than even a year ago and which I'd abandoned.

First time back in absolutely ages; Not only are most of the all the old problems still unaddressed, the servers now seem to be failing, or at least they've been downgraded to a potato.

20-30 seconds per potential page load, and occasional timeouts instead of a page load. It certainly feels like the plug is going to get pulled (or more likely, the DGAF owners will just stop paying the hosting fees).

The site is now too slow and broken to attract anyone. RIP
Congratulations, you've noticed that this year's signature is based on outdated internet memes; CLICK HERE NOW to experience this unforgettable phenomenon. This sentence is just filler and as irrelevant as my signature.

I check in weekly or so. There's not much traffic, true, but the signal to noise ratio is oh so good here vs where I lurk nowadays. (Feels like half of Techpowerup's commentors seem like they are 12 years old.)

With a name like "Techpowerup", this does not surprise me.

There's actually some really competent members there. The site is sufficiently popular to also have the great unwashed present.

A very nice international giveaway of cool, sexy, exciting hardware would be a start.

That is expensive, and does nothing to address the core issues here. Who do you think would pay for it, and what would the long-term benefit be?

The site owners should pay, obviously. What might seem expensive to us is pretty run-of-the-mill advertising expense to them. They can surely do and have done worse things than a giveaway.

OK, so they do a giveaway of high-end hardware... to attract readers to a site that doesn't review new high-end hardware or publish an up-to-date system builder's guide any more? None of those readers are going to stick around.

I repeat: What would the long-term benefit be?

Seems like you're putting the cart before the horse here.

Not all users might stick, but some users might explore the site a bit and potentially bookmark it. Not every user has a high expectation from a techie site.

Unless you're into retro computing, old PC hardware reviews aren't particularly useful. What's the incentive to bookmark?

The front page is being kept alive by contributors and though we are not fans of its content, it might attract some people into regularly visiting it once they discover the site through the giveaway.

Look I understand that you want free hardware (hence the "international" giveaway...), but what does that have to do with the predicament of the website?

Giveaway increases exposure, leads to greater monthly hits and motivates the owners to invest more into the site's content. Yes, the international part is partly for my own vested interest but international users are more in need of getting in touch with people who know tech. Would you rather that they find guru3d.com or tomshardware.com via Google search?

I'd rather you stop pretending that your own personal wish fulfillment has anything at all to do with the practical realities facing this site.
