I've let the magic smoke out of a few computer components over the years. Does that count as supernatural?

I did this just within the past week. Connected a Vantec SATA->USB adapter to a hard drive on top of a closed laptop. Apparently the casing of the laptop was sufficiently metallic (despite feeling like plastic), and the circuit board on the bottom of the drive shorted. Magic smoke from the adapter. Haven't tested the drive yet (it doesn't have any scent or burn marks, as compared to the adapter which is very pungent), but thankfully the drive and data are largely unimportant anyhow.

That's the second component I've destroyed with a bonehead amateur move in the past month or so.

Even if the laptop was plastic, it might have had a metallic paint/coating for EMI shielding.

At least the piece of equipment you blew up wasn't an expensive one.

I don't believe in Jinn either, but thanks for your interpretation.

Sounds perfectly natural to me. They wouldn't put that stuff in there if they didn't want you to find it!

Yeap. It's a blue-gray color which is likely a coating and likely metallic. The thought didn't even cross my mind at the time. It's frustrating because the adapter was only about 2 months old (bought mainly for use with an optical drive because I'm tired of it getting in my way inside a tight case, and it's only used once every 6 months), but yes, $20 is getting away easy. I could almost certainly pull off a successful RMA, but it wouldn't feel right ethically.

Supernatural stories here but not sure how much of it is real.

We were all staring at the display screen when the message appeared: ‘ERASED’!

Was there ever an OS that reported a floppy disk being erased with a message saying just that?

If she needs to get stone drunk and then lost in the woods, it's not people she'd be helping...

...it'd be people (hopefully!) helping her.

Closure is a psychological concept. Exposure is a physiological one.

In other words, if this situation is what she needs in order to contact ghosts, you might need a ghost whisperer to contact HER

Or JBI could protect her by not getting drunk at the same time as her.

Why do you just assume that this has anything to do with what JBI chooses to do?

JBI told you a story about another person--his wife, yes--but still, someone else. Not him.

Thus it's not -really- up to him whether or not this other person should do anything: You asked him for a story. You got one, from him.

He didn't ask you for third-party career recommendations, but yet he's still getting them.

Why?

She'd really, REALLY prefer to never get that drunk again. (And she hasn't, so far.)

Seems more like like unfulfilled potential for liver damage in this case.

Maybe there's a way to trigger the hidden ability without getting drunk. Maybe through meditation?

I want to see you put the magic smoke back into a processor. That would be supernatural.
