My guess is that "The Waiting Room" is the "enossification" credited to Brian Eno in the official credits.

And you know how I feel about TFTO.

Yup. I'm probably due for a listen (I put it on once every year or so), only to conclude that it sill doesnt' quite "do it" for me.

Haken - Affinity (2016)

Excellent prog metal. Quite possibly the best thing they've done.

Buckethead - Attic Garden (2016)

Half hour of whacked out instrumental experimental metal from the man with the KFC bucket. Much of it is frenetic and/or dissonant, but it also has occasional mellow ambient interludes. One of his better "Pikes" releases, IMO. I really like this!

Genesis - Abacab (1981)

Man, I have such a love/hate relationship with this album. The title track and "Dodo" are absolutely brilliant, and represent what Genesis re-imagined for the '80s could've been. "No Reply At All" is a catchy, well-crafted pop song, but really belongs on a Phil Collins solo album. "Who Dunnit" is memorable for the wrong reason; it's an absolutely wretched piece of crap; why would you record -- let alone release -- something like that? The rest of the album consists of forgettable filler.

"Who Dunnit" is terrible, but you need to view it through the lens of a failed experiment. I agree with you on everything else.

While we're talking about Genesis, I just picked up the CD of Wind and Wuthering (1976)

I already had this on vinyl from back in the day (and ripped the vinyl to FLAC years ago), but my vinyl copy wasn't in the best of shape, so i (finally) decided to get the CD. Apparently the version that is currently widely available is the 2007 remaster.

Damnit, they've applied DR compression to the CD version. It's not especially egregious sonically, but it's there. So now I have my choice of two flawed versions of this album. Grumble, grumble. :-?

Edit: I'm pretty sure they've tinkered with the mix (or at least applied some EQ) too. There's noticeably more bass in the CD version. This is not necessarily a bad thing, as the LP version does sound a little "thin" IMO; but I think they may have over-done it a bit.

The USB stick threw up an old classic on the way home tonight.

Yes - The Gates of Delirium. The sole album with full participation by Patrick Moraz, who was unceremoniously fired and screwed out of revenue early in the "Going For The One" sessions so that Rick Wakeman could come back (he left in early 1974 because he took the majority position on "Tales From Topographic Oceans").

Yup, as we've discussed (multiple times over the years), Relayer is quite possibly my favorite Yes album. I was very disappointed that Yes kicked Moraz out and did not continue to explore the new musical territory they seemed to be heading towards.

Oh Well, Part II, from Then Play On.

The original Fleetwood Mac, a/k/a the English white-boy blues band founded by Mick Fleetwood and Peter Green. Peter Green is a blues legend who lost himself around 1970 to the usual chemistry of the day, and hasn't really found a path all the way back as yet. For those who may have never heard of him, he replaced Clapton in the blues farm team of all farm teams, a/k/a John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers.

This particular number (at least Part II) shows a whole different side, as it's Spanish classical guitar. While Ennio Morricone's scores for the Man With No Name trilogy are perfect this bit, along with the closing movement of Pink Floyd's Atom Heart Mother, are the only two pieces I believe could improve upon the perfection of the standoff scene in Good/Bad/Ugly.

As for the song, he wrote Part II first and slapped on Part I to keep the record company happy, which meant that the record company made Part I the single and moved Part II into a piece very few have ever heard.

From the same album as Green Manalishi. I wonder how many people don't realize it's a Fleetwood Mac song (and think the Judas Priest cover version is the original).

Rock Candy Funk Party - Groove Is King (2015)

Great jazz/rock/funk fusion. Features Joe Bonamassa on guitar. Good stuff.

https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=P ... wjtUtIrbsK

It's kinda crazy how stuff is connected. I originally found Bonamassa because someone here recommended Beth Hart, so I ended up getting the two (now three, as of a few weeks ago) collaboration albums she did with Bonamassa. That led me to check out his solo stuff, and the RCFP releases.

Great song from a great band.

But you also gotta have the original 1985 video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lAD6Obi7Cag (state-of-the-art computer animation for its day, LOL)

And the Weird Al parody: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aMiRGCGIfCg

That's the sanitized version, not the original with the homophobic slur.
Brothers In Arms was the first CD that I ever purchased. There weren't many from which to choose in 1985.

Yup. I don't think it was my very first CD, but it was darned close. Quarterflash's "Back Into Blue", Alan Parsons Project's "Vulture Culture", and "Thunder Seven" by Triumph were also among my early CD purchases. Ahh, the '80s!

Bach's Brandenburg Concertos were also one of my first CD purchases...

Is it sad to admit that my first ever CD was "Now that's what I call Music Vol. 1"? Unless you count Adam Sandler's first skit CD "They're all gonna laugh at you!" Which I should have never had access to at my age then :P
