The Beatles - Let It Be... Naked

This is basically a 2003 remix of Let It Be, based on McCartney's opinion of what The Beatles would've actually wanted the album to sound like. IOW, what it could've been if Phil Spector hadn't been brought in after the fact to finish mixing the album and add all the overdubs (with zero band input). In addition to the "de-Spectorization", the track order has been reworked, "Don't Let Me Down" (from the same sessions) has been added, two short "filler" tracks removed, and the studio/rooftop chatter between the tracks edited out. The sound quality has also been noticeably cleaned up.

In general, I have to agree with most of the changes made here; they result in a more cohesive album. On the downside, the mix of "Let It Be" (the song) doesn't have George Harrison's guitar solo from the original album version, and IMO it is sorely missed. I've always preferred the album version to the single version of the song for the same reason.

The original version of the album will always have a special place in my heart, since it is the version I grew up listening to. But this is also a worthy addition to my music collection.
Nostalgia isn't what it used to be.

Pink Floyd, Comfortably Numb

Learning David Gilmour's solos in this song right now, and it's become my (temporary?) favorite song.

Why is a song from The Wall shown as coming from Dark Side?
What we have today is way too much pluribus and not enough unum.

Because whoever uploaded the video doesn't know what's what.

Too bad the bass line is not nearly as exciting: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gKFJsxEMHMQ#t=1m20s (Guy Pratt is the primary bassist who replaced Roger, and tours with Gilmour).

Also somewhat of a hot take, but Comfortably Numb is such a bleh song from their entire catalog IMO.

Probably a fair criticism, compared to so much of Pink Floyd's discography. The guitar solos are cool, though.

For sure. I think my favorite version is their Live 8 performance - the whole performance was tight and you could definitely feel the energy of the whole band playing together. It's the only version where when I listen to it, the sum is greater than the parts. Being able to hear the keys/organ texturing the solo really makes a huge difference. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P_4uEaZQ2Kg Note that I'm less fond of the official Live 8 version (linked here) and prefer the original broadcast version, which seems to have disappeared from youtube sadly. The sound mixing was much more organic and less manufactured, and really captured the magic of that show better than what I linked. And yes, I've spent way too much time in my life critiquing all the versions of Comfortably Numb that exist.

Edit: Found it! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ljaU7YcrKAU#t=16m00s

some of my favorite recordings are live videos I've captured on an iPhone at concerts, so I feel you. Inside the Peoria Civic Center, the iPhone mic array does a great job of echo/noise cancellation and apparently auto-adjusts the gain so it's not distorted, too. I have video of Skillet and Thousand Foot Krutch (not at the same time; different shows) that both sound great. The TFK show was recorded for video release, apparently (that's what they told the crowd, and there were cameras on cranes), but I can't find it on YouTube.

I think one of the best attributes of the jam scene is how many of the bands are open to tapers, and giving some tapers soundboard access. Definitely not feasible for big-name bands (sadly) filling huge venues, but smaller bands and venues. Archive.org is a treasure that I love dearly. There are several shows I've attended that have gone up and they do an amazing job of recreating the experience without sounding like total ****.

I'm gonna have to look into that. It never occurred to me to even search.

Nathaniel Rateliff - And It's Still Alright

Titular song from his solo album released this past February. Beautifully composed song. Whole album is great.

Dust - Hard Attack

These guys never really had much of a following, and were only active for about two years (1970-1971) which is a shame because they're really quite good... kind of a combination of rock, blues, and metal.

Was parting out a new build and thought of all you guys. Hope you are all doing well and still keeping those ears out for some fresh new tunes.
