ProgGrass, though with some underlying Weird Al Polka, especially in the vocals.

Oh, my next raise is this:

For those who wonder if JBI and I have lost our minds: Between my English prog leanings and JBI's prog/metal jones, there is always a space for pure acoustic music, especially when talented groups can mimic tunes in either of our preferred genres.

It might make for a good EDM remix sample.

Steve Hackett - "Dancing With The Moonlight Knight"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mryI_DrgI5M

Every time the Genesis faithful try to decide the "best album", it resolves to Selling England by the Pound and A Trick of the Tail. This tune is from Selling England and has a special place in Genesis fan's heads. After Peter Gabriel left in 1974, the only known recording of this tune was 13 OCT 1978 at the Uptown Theatre in Chicago. That show was recorded just after Steve left Genesis ("And then There Were Three").

I sent a lossless copy to JBI a few years ago, and would gladly do so for anyone else so interested.

Yes, on their induction to the R&R HoF, with the only possible replacement for Chris Squire (RIP) on bass. Yep, Geddy Lee (and playing a Fender instead of a Rickenbacke??r).

OMDFG, is Steve Howe old?

TBH I think Billy Sheehan could've pulled it off, but Geddy is indeed the clear choice here.

Yeah, no kidding... looks kind of like Skeletor (sorry, Steve). Kudos to him for still getting out there and touring with Yes.

The one question to which I can't find an answer is it if was Alan White on the drums. Age looks right, but that's all I've got. Bruford stopped playing years ago, so I know it's not him.

Based on the picture on his Wikipedia page and the videos/pics from the HoF induction, yeah that's Alan. AFAIK he's still touring with Yes. To my knowledge, Bruford retired following the release of Skin And Wire by Piano Circus, back in 2009.

Speaking of Alan... at the risk of putting another dent in your credit card, were you aware of the side project he did with Tony Levin and David Torn a few years back?

For those who wonder about my Genesis infatuation:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DsHU_e_x_fM

Steve Hackett was the soul of Genesis until Tony Banks drove him out. He and his band ARE Gabriel-era Genesis to me. Oh, and he invented tapping, BTW.

Yup, he has a distinctive style, and is very underrated. The Gordian Knot album I discovered (and mentioned here) recently was a pleasant surprise. Hackett is only on it for a few minutes (handful of guest solos), but his contributions provide some nice contrasting textures since he doesn't sound anything like the other guitarists on the album (who lean in more of a typical prog metal direction).

Edit: Ned, here's one of his solos from the Gordian Knot album. Lasts about a minute: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SOaoPa3-83U&t=157

Some of the comments in my linked Hackett vid argue over the "proper" way to wear a Fender guitar strap (seems like most believe the embroidered "Fender" should be upside-down), while completely missing the obvious point that Steve is playing (and has always played) a Gibson Les Paul.

There isn't a Fender on the planet that has the sustain needed to make those smooth tones.

Well, they only released two albums and aren't together any more, so I think your credit card is (relatively) safe this time around.

TBH I am a little surprised you didn't jump on it when I first mentioned it a few weeks back, since I did point out that Hackett and Bruford both put in guest appearances.

Well, the card has been ridden hard so far in 2017 (been a bad year so far for domestic infrastructure issues), so I was hoping to stretch out the purchases.

Well, you've returned the favor too occasionally! I was not aware of the Genesis Revisited II double-CD release by Hackett until I started poking around the 'net prompted by your Hackett post. I ordered it from Amazon earlier today. Listening to the Auto-Rip download until the physical CDs arrive.

Quite the diverse collection of guest vocalists on this. Mikael Akerfeldt (of Opeth) as one of the vocalists on "Supper's Ready", and John Wetton on "Afterglow"? Heh.

Aside from augmented instrumentation here and there (and modern production), these seem to be fairly faithful to the original versions. Hackett must be pretty seriously nostalgic for his time in Genesis (I suppose some might say "stuck in the past"...) to come back to this material nearly 4 decades on and embark on a project of this magnitude.

Well, they needed something for Steve to do since it's a Rabin tune! I imagine Wakeman was pretty bored playing Tony Kaye's parts triggering a few synth samples...
